LOS ANGELES (AP) - More than 30 black lawmakers, civic and religious leaders promised to fight secession efforts by the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood, saying a breakaway would reduce black clout.

Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, D-Culver City, said Friday the anti-secession message will be spread to black voters from churches and union halls. The campaign also will register blacks to vote in time for secession balloting Nov. 5.

Perhaps the L.A. folks need to take a little trip to Cuba and learn how Fidel keeps his folks confined.

There may come a day when one needs to apply for an exit visa to move from one U.S. city to another.

Actually, I echo many posters who say, too bad Hollywood, suck it up and keep paying those taxes to support those giveaway programs for the unproductive class you love so much!

Didn't that judge who ordered a doubling of Kansas City property taxes to support a massive, court-ordered reengineering of the public schools, back in 1987, also order the annexation of a large sector of the suburbs around the city?

I don't know if they did anything locally. I wish they would have. I do know that they picked the pockets of the entire state to pay for that boondoggle. And it did not do a bit a good for the schools. They are as bad as ever.

He's in the 9th circuit where God in government has been declared illegal. He'd make great fodder for the argument before the Supremes that there's more religion in government that needs to go before those two words.

Hear that sound? It's the "Tax Subsudies Gravy Train" leaving the station! Now suddenly local politicians will have to find a means to "revive" local economies and make their districts attractive to businesses and higher income residences without relying on taxes confistcated from other districts. The locals will have to become accountable for their lifestyles if they want to appear more appealing to outsiders. Basically, people will be held held accountable for thier actions.

Can't have that kind of crap going on. Better block the secession.

UnHolywood is thinking of moving to Canada if they do not get a one hundred million dollar tax break they are asking for. They have sown the liberal wind, now they complain about reaping the socialist whirlwind.

For movie stars it would be a good break, their money will go twice as far in Canada. I say we ban their movies from the USofA if they make this move.

Now hold it a second. While as a mid-westerner I don't really like to jump at the chance to support New York, the old whore is getting very much better these days. Since Rudy took over City crime is down and it seems a more civilized place. So don't lump the Big Apple in with the Californicated idiots that live in the LA basin (Fresno excepted).

The only reason why the valley is a part of LA is due to Bill Mulholland. Before he came around, LA was hole. Water was the key, but no adeuqate supply existed. Bill conquered many obstacles, finally he figured that since he couldn't bring water to LA, he would bring LA to the water, incorporating the valley into the City of the Angels.

I am all for the seccession of the valley. Screw the rest of the dump.

I've lived in the Valley. It has absolutely NOTHING in common with the horribleness of the rest of LA

LOL. Seems I've heard this argument before. What do you think?

My opinion is that the Valley needs to be forcibly occupied and shut down the polls keeping them open just for voters that agree with keeping the Valley under LA control. How dare these citizens want to separate themselves from the other good folks of their city. My gosh, an industrialized area wanting to keep a more laid back enviroment that probaably pays most of the taxes in their fold? What are these folks in the Valley thinking?!?!? < /sarcasm>

"We are not convinced that always smaller is better."

Seems we've heard THAT before as well. I applaud these folks and hope they can secede from the rest of LA

So don't lump the Big Apple in with the Californicated idiots that live in the LA basin (Fresno excepted).

Thanks for your support.

Along with the luxury of not caring what happens to California and why, you also have the luxury of wondering why the Democrats have a lock on our Electoral votes since 1992. And while you're wondering, wonder why New Mexico was the one Blue aberration in 2000.

In coming years, the rest of the country can wonder what happened to Nevada and Arizona to make them go Democrat. And when Texas gets wobbly, you can once again say...

"WHY? WHO CARES? WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?

Let the Cesspool fall in on itself."

Of course, by then the Democrats will have an Electoral lock on the Presidency and own Congress.

Like it or not, big city local politics becomes your national politics.

And one of the things killing our local politics in Los Angeles (though much is self-induced) is national in origin... the decision of DC politicians not to enforce our immigration laws against Illegals.

There used to be Republican strongholds in California in Orange and San Diego counties, and even a decent population in the San Fernando Valley, that are gone or heavily diluted because of the influx of Illegals in the last 20 years and the subsequent flight of the middle class. Those GOP stronglholds no longer offset the Democrat majorities in the Bay Area and the rest of L.A., and now the Dems have an enormous advantage here, putting the Republicans in an Electoral hole in Presidential calculations. How many midwestern states do we have to pull back to even?

The racists on the L.A. City Council have exacerbated this, preventing our police from determining the residence status of criminals they apprehend. The is no cooperation between local law enforcement and the INS.

Heck, we couldn't even maintain a municipal leaf-blower ban because it was considered "racist."

So, much to the delight of our local officials, the Valley has been inundated by a grasping, clutching, demographic tidal wave.

The Funny thing about the opposition of South L.A. to San Fernando Valley secession is if things continue as they have, they won't want us another 10 to 20 years anyway.

The cash cow will have mooooooooved on.

Never fails. Every time there is any post that has to do with black people some pinhead rolls out the old Amos & Andy routine and thinks it's funny.

Also never fails that the same pinhead never has anything cogent to add to the discussion.

Once again black churches are going to used for political purposes. Sounds like it is time for them to lose their tax exempt status.

Isn't it possible that what Black LA fears is the growing Chicano power? Losing the chance to Mau-Mau the Valley and Hollywood residents will hurt, and their efforts to continue to demand a piece of the action will eventually be blocked by the new up-and-comers.

"Unlike our push for reparations, which is of course a UNIFYING idea. Uniting with our white brothers has always been of paramount importance to the black community," he added between choking on his own bile and vomiting from the sheer hypocrisy.

Actually, the split should increase Black clout. They'd be a larger proportion of the City of Los Angeles, than they are now.

BTW, the valley isn't all white, there's a large percentage of hispanics. Cecil "Chip" Murray just wants to keep all these people on the plantation.
