A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

A Few of FR's Finest..... Voices Silent, They Are Not Forgotten
1John - 02-01-02 CHIEF_Negotiator - 10-03-01 BCM - 09-11-01 BKO - 09-11-01 CommiesOut - 05-25-02
FreeRepublic Memorial Wall
These are only five of the FRiends who are no longer with us, but they are the only photos I had and the most recent. BCM and BKO, among the casualties of September 11th; Chief Negotiator, a tragic accident just weeks later; 1John, who is pictured in the very first veteran's group above; and CommiesOut, who passed away just last month.
I remember also BC Johnson, EdLinn, RR, OldAtlanta, heavyd, CaseyJay.....familiar names I used to see often on many threads. There are other names on the Memorial Wall some of you may remember: LoveUSA's father, Michael A. Marhevka; laissezfirearm, and JMIRACLE.
This weekend's thread is dedicated to the memory of these dear friends. I hope you will take a few minutes and visit the Memorial Wall and read some of the tributes that are linked to each name. The Wall is a beautiful tribute, created and maintained by Mr_Magoo, "for all of those whose voices have been silenced."
"Rest in Peace, Dear Friends, we will carry the Torch of Freedom in Your Memory."

..Do you mean to soak the shrimp after they've been boiled? ..No, I meant before. When I get mine, I put them in ice salt water for a few hours to bring the flavour out and 'intensify' it. The farm raised we get here are from fresh water and the flavour is just not 'there'.
I do the rest similar to your procedure....if I can keep from eating them before they get to the freezer.

The good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, as they say in the best parts of the country, I will. Not as early as you all are, since I am West Coast and a night owl.
It was a good day here. Nice folks being nice.
I will look forward to a great day tomorrow with y'all.

Best you get on your thread or Who! and I'll
soak your a$$ in freezing salty water. Hoping
you guys had a super time with your guests. JL
Thanks for the clarification. I do realize that
peeling before cooking reduces the flavor, but
boy, oh boy, does it every save on the need for Glade.

Amy, Dear, are you sure those don't apply to Phoenix? Please don't tell me Fresno is actually that bad...I'll never visit, then!
(I left Phoenix 26 years ago because of the heat, and only go back for family emergencies!!!)

Good 'un, Dave, reminds me of something I saw yesterday while leaving post.
On the signboard outside the Main Post Chapel the Post Chaplain had put up his message for the week. It read:
"It's easier to raise strong children
Than it is to fix broken men."

We suffer from a vicious cycle of babies raising babies, and so many don't have their mommas there to help. And babies need dads, but dads can't do it alone.
Preacher this morning talked about how we've gone about it all wrong for the last 40 years...we've asked 'what can we do to fix this', and end up throwing money at a perceived problem instead of asking 'Why?" Ask why, answer that question, and then you know how to fix it.
One answer is that evil goes unopposed and unpunished.
Well...enough soap-boxing for now!
