Has anyone seen detailed arguments in favour of reparations? Usually for any cause you can find someone articulate enough to put together an essay that at least sounds like a well-reasoned stance for a position (until you look into facts that are conveniently omitted from the presentation), but I cannot even think of a rational-sounding argument that could be made for reparations.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

You know, at one point, I had a lot of respect for Henry Louis Gates.

Then again, at one point, I was a snot-nosed college kid who was just as liberal as the rest of the sheep being led around by the race warlords, too.

Too bad education is wasted on so-called "black intelligensia" like Gates.

Reed's website is here: Fred on Everything.

Columns here: Fred's Columns.

And this column here: Reparations for blacks: why?. (he also calls it "Blacks And The Politics Of Racial Extortion: Will It Work Forever?") It is one of several columns he has written on this theme.

I think this old article has already been posted under the above title(s).

good post. But there are two parts to their illogic. The first are the problems you pointed out. They were never slaves, No one alive today has owned slaves, therefore we owe them nothing. The second problem here is that they are only targeting the U.S. The Brits had slaves long long before we did, and Africa is still doing it! But not one person has bugged these countries for reparations. Just another anti-America group trying to villify our country.

Perhaps they should consider themselves indebted to their "masters" for helping them escape a life of corrupt governments and mass starvation. Otherwise, former slaves may have not been able to reproduce, allowing them to grow up free from untimely death and disease.

I consider Alan Keyes, Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams possessed of three of the finest minds extant today. In case you don’t know them, all are black.

So far as I can tell, Keyes, Sowell and Williams oppose this idiotic call for reparations.

The modern descendants of slaves brought here in chains in admittedly miserable, soul-gutting conditions who are now calling for reparations need to remember a few things:

They should not only be glad to be in America, they should be glad to be ANYWHERE !

Had they NOT been sold to the slave traders, the blood of their ancestors would have run into the earth over there several centuries ago and these modern day would-be "plaintiffs" would not even exist.

And should the great-great-great grandchildren of the approximately 3,000 SLAVE OWNING BLACK plantation owners in this country also be subject to PAYING these reparations?

If so, how do we find THEM?

Robert Hitt Neill tells of attending a Tennessee Mountain Writer’s Conference years ago with several other authors. Among them was Alex Hailey, celebrated author of “Roots.” Watching a TV news show, a group of them watched a demonstration in a Southern state against the “Rebel” flag incorporated into that state’s flag. The very next report covered a famine in Africa. Graphic images showed dead bodies, starving children with distended tummies and runny noses and dying people covered with flies, too weak to brush them away.

Mr. Hailey intoned in a low, serious voice:
“Every time an American black sees a story like that, they should find a Confederate flag and kiss it.” He then pointed to the TV screen and continued, “Because these would be me and my descendants, except for American slavery. I thank God that my family and I are here instead of there.”

What about the millions STILL living in slavery, held there by members of THEIR OWN RACE in Africa and elsewhere today?

And how about the MILLIONS of WHITES and ASIANS who have slavery in their backgrounds?

Next problem!

For lack of anything else, I watched Entertainment Tonight last night. They showed scenes from the Black Entertainment Awards (or whatever it's called.) My thought - when I saw all the designer dresses and genuine jewelry - was that these sure were some "oppressed" black people! Geez. The poorest of them makes more than I ever will in my life.

I understand that some black entertainers return some time and money to the black community, but I haven't heard any of them speak for or against reparations. IMO the silence is deafening.

Republican party was founded to oppose expansion of slavery into the territories in the 1850s.

The following excerpts are from Vernon Wharton, The Negro in Mississippi (1865-1890). They describe the end of Reconstruction in Mississippi:

"Once the general policy had been adopted [by self styled Redeemers] that Negro and Republican control of state government was to be broken at any cost, a number of methods were followed for its accomplishment. One of these involved the intimidation of those whites who still worked with the Republican party . . . As early as December 1874 the Hinds County Gazette declared that death should be meted out to those who continued their opposition. 'All other means having been exhausted to abate the horrible condition of things [Republican rule effected by a white Republican coalition with newly freed African Americans] the thieves and robbers and scoundrels, white and black, deserve death and ought to be killed . . . The thieves kept in office by [Republican] Governor Ames . . . ought to be compelled to leave the State or abide the consequences.' p. 185

***

"Against the Negroes themselves one of the most poweerful forces used was economic pressure, All over the state, Democratic clubs announced that no Negro who voted Republican could hope for any form of employment the following year . . .
***

"[T]he democratic leaders of the state, while they often denied the existence of violence, or tried to shift the blame for it to Negroes, never actually repudiated its use . . . [T]he Democratic press adopted the slogan, 'Carry the election peaceably if we can, forcibly if we must." . . . Democratic clubs provided themselves with the latest style of repeating rifles." p. 187
***

A few nights later, the Republicans endeavored to hold a meeting in Yazoo city. Their hall was invaded by a number of Democrats, led by their 'rope bearer,' H. M. Dixon. In the confusion which followed a native white Republican was killed, and several Negroes were wounded. The white sheriff escaped with his life by fleeing to Jackson. White militia then took charge of the county, and systematically lynched the Negro leaders in each superior's district. p. 191.
Link
The Republican Party fought to free the slaves, indeed, Republicans created a Party to protest slavery. White Christians were in the forefront of the fight against slavery. Conde Rice's grandfather became a Republican when the Democrats wouldn't let him register to vote in the Jim Crow south. The historical revisionism is keeping black Americans in bondage. The jealousy, hate and victimization incited by the black "leaders" in the inner cities is anti-Biblical and will always produce nothing but death and poverty. The same "preaching" didn't work for Stalin and it will never work in third world and Arab nations.

The gggrandparents of todays' ungrateful young people, both black and white, would be shocked at our complaining in the face of such freedom and opportunity, forgetting those who suffered and died for us, and blind to our blessings. We whine. Mr. Gates's gggrandmother would have slapped him upside the head for his ingratitude...and rightly so (mine would, too).

I'm surprised I've not seen anyone propose the logical solution, which would be to offer all decendants of slaves CSA$100 each. Of course, what they'd do with all that worthless paper I have no idea, but it would seem if anyone owed them anything it would be the government of the Confederacy. That there was so much Confederate currency printed that even today its collector's value is practically nil shouldn't cause any problem; indeed, it probably makes the goal of 'reparations' more achievable.

That's a lot of demanding for one month, Hank. What happens if whites ever say, "No"?

It's no longer an "if":

We Won't Pay
