Absolutely right!!! Just as British pacifists during the Blitz were "objectively pro-German" (Orwell), conservative purists who whine about RINOs and stay home this fall or vote for "conservative Democrats" are "objectively pro-Leftist."

Make no mistake about it: the fate of the Constitution, and the nation, rests on the judiciary; the fate of the judiciary rests on the Senate Judiciary Committee; the fate of the Senate Judiciary Committee rests on the fate of Tom Daschle as Majority Leader; and the fate of Tom Daschle as Majority Leader rests on the coming Senatorial election.

An excellent summary of why to vote Republican in November!

The Democrat may be more conservative but look at it this way -- do you like Daschle heading the Senate because the worst Repubican in the Senate according to the ACU ratings is only 4 points worse than the only RAT in the Senate that has voted more conservative. That one is Spectre.

Don't be fooled by conservative DemocRATS! When the chips are down in the Senate, the DemocRATS will vote with Daschle. You can take that to the bank! In the House, there are four DemocRATS that almost always vote with Republicans but they don't vote on judicial nominations.

For the sake of Chairmanships and judicial nominations, hold your nose and vote for Alexander. I held my nose in 1996 and voted for Dole! And I was not happy!

Presidents can threaten or bribe. Those are the only tools they have.

Presidents can also make recess appointments.

Correct you are about political capital. However, I must say that Leahy is afraid of losing his Chairmanship, which would happen if enough dem senators lost.

Therefore, the scenario I used would be the best. We KNOW that Leahy and Kennedy feel secure in their positions as senators. However, should they hold up a Hispanic Supreme Court nominee, Rat senator candidates in some races mught go down to defeat, placing them in the minority again.

Therefore, the capital should be spent in making sure Hispanics and everyone else understand that a vote for whatever dem senatorial candidate is running is a vote for Leahy and Daschle.

It sure would be interesting if Sessions was in Charge! I would love to see Leahy's face and hear him!

I forgot to add that we need two extra seats so when Mccain and that other guy Chaffee decide to join daschle we still control the Majority!

If the retirement is before november, it will be stevens or ginsberg because the dems control the senate. If it is after november, it will be rehnquist or oconner because I think the pubs will control the senate.

Have heard rumors that Renquist has promised to stay on until after the elections and would think O'Connor would also.

Someone told me that Gingsburg is ill -- don't know if that is true or not.

Good. Time for Bush to spend a little "political capital".

This is going to be a battle royale! For the dims, the Supremes are the Holy Grail of politics. They will fight to the last breath.

At the doubloon nailed to the mast: "'Men, this gold is mine, but I shall let it abide here until the White Whale is dead. And then, whosoever of ye first raises him upon the day he shall be killed, this gold is that man's. And if on that day I shall again raise him, then ten times its sum shall be divided among all of ye! Away now!"

I'd pick Judge Roy S. Moore!

O'Conner and/or Rehnquist (if either) will depart - no dims will retire. Thomas/Scalia will be picked for Chief. Then in a surprise move, W picks N. Sanders Sauls for associate.

I think it will be O'Connor. She has speculated over the past couple years that she wants to retire.

Drudge always says this.

Yawn.

If somebody does retire, we can worry about it then.

Could Bush nominate Ted Olsen? I know he already went in for a bloodbath as Solicitor General, but having been through that, couldn't Bush push him farther up the rung since he DID make it?

Is criticizing President Bush for enacting liberal policies mutually exclusive from supporting a GOP recapturing of the Senate?

No, it's not mutually exclusive. But it's about as helpful in actually causing us to recapture the Senate in November as putting a giant "Vote DEMOCRAT" sign on your front lawn.

Like it or not, during campaign season we have to put our policy differences aside and stand as one against the Democrats. We can start arguing amongst ourselves again on November 6th.

I'd guess Sandra Day O'Connor: she's tired, wants to go home to Arizona.

Yes, the fact is that almost anyone old enough to be nominated to the Supreme Court is also old enough to have been alive at a time when not being sufficiently politically correct was not a capitol offense, and is therefore compromised.

The only way to avoid this trap is to nominate liberals or minorities. Liberal lies notwithstanding, there are plenty of qualified, conservative minorities to choose from.
