BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. tennis great Martina Navratilova criticized her adopted homeland in a German newspaper on Wednesday, saying money is the only thing that matters there.
Navratilova, a Czech-born American who won 18 grand slam singles titles when she dominated women's tennis in the late 1970s and 1980s, also wrote in an article for Die Zeit weekly that she believed free speech was being suppressed in the United States. "The most absurd part of my escape from the unjust system is that I have exchanged one system that suppresses free opinion for another," said Navratilova, 45, who fled Czechoslovakia at the age of 18 to go to the United States.
The nine-time women's Wimbledon ( news - web sites) champion, who still plays in some doubles tournaments and last week played in a singles tournament at the Eastbourne International Championships in England, singled out President Bush ( news - web sites)'s Republican Party for unusually harsh criticism.
"The Republicans in the United States manipulate public opinion and sweep any controversial issues under the table," Navratilova said.
"It's depressing. Decisions in America are based solely on the question of 'how much money will come out of it' and not on the questions of how much health, morals or the environment suffer as a result."
Navratilova, who is openly homosexual, said she fights actively for gay rights.

Remember that
everything a homosexual says, does, or believes is informed by their homosexuality. That is why these comments seem so ridiculous. They make no sense unless you look at them with your "gay rights" glasses on.
It's all about themselves and their "sex".

Who cares? She hits a ball with a stringed stick. Her opinion on political and social matters should not be given any credence unless it treads on the subject of tennis.

Oh - wait - that was her original country. Here, she can say that kind of thing and openly be a homosexual. Yep, she's suppressed, oppressed, repressed, enslaved.
As my mom always says, "Delta has flights leaving everyday."

True story. My daughter was in the south of France this spring and her husband spotted Martina jogging. He said to her, "Hey, that's Martina Navratilova."
She replied, "No, that's a guy."
He said, "Well..."

"The most absurd part of my escape from the unjust system is that I have exchanged one system that suppresses free opinion for another," said Navratilova, 45, who fled Czechoslovakia at the age of 18 to go to the United States. That's what Ann Coulter's latest book, Slander, tell us all about . . .
The nine-time women's Wimbledon champion . . . singled out President Bush's Republican Party for unusually harsh criticism. "The Republicans in the United States manipulate public opinion and sweep any controversial issues under the table," Navratilova said. . . . but from an ever-so-slightly different persective . . .

LOL That will be glorious and is inevitable.

HEADLINE: The Great Nation of The United States of America attacks skewed values of former tennis star Navratilova.
To: Pagey
What's truly offensive is that her comments are really insulting to all those Czechs (and Slovaks) who were persecuted, tortured, imprisoned, and murdered under Communism. Whatever "suffering" she's endured (not bloody much) in the US is far far less than what her former countrymen went through. For her to equate her experience with theirs is absolutely vile.

Navratilova needs to give back all the money she took from this greedy capitalist country so her conscience will feel better and she can sleep at night...

Translation:
"Perfidious Washed-Up Lesbian Athlete Turns on Country That Provided Her Home
That Made Her Rich"
But I'll cut this formerly great athlete a little slack...
no telling what her Communist coaches put in her food and water before she had a moment
of lucidity and escaped an outpost of The Evil Empire.
(I'll never forget even my own "church-lady" mother laughing out loud when I
drew her attention to a National Lampoon cover showing a East German female athlete...
with an obvious male "bulge" in her gym shorts...priceless.
BTW, I do feel sorry for the athletes that were used as guinea pigs by the overlords
of those "workers paradise" countries.)
She must have a bad taste left in her mouth for having shacked up with a
beauty queen from Texas (who was probably a Republican!).
