>whatever happened to freedom of worship?
You have it. The problem is that you'd like to force your God upon others and they would like their freedom to avoid worship. Now you both have your rights.

Remember, this ruling is coming down now, in June. Public schools don't open again in US till the autumn. Maybe this will be off most people's radar screens by that time. It's a shock, that's for sure.

Yeah, but isn't the common interpretation of the constitution since... well... God knows when, back in Jefferson's presidency... isn't the common interpretation that any law which endorses a religion necessarily excludes other religious traditions from that endorsement? And which religion is being excluded in the phrase, "One Nation Under God"? Even atheists, whose god is the material world, shouldn't have a problem with it. There is always the Truth that there is a higher power, and that power is referred to as God. The word God is not peculiar to any specific religion, and does not discriminate.

I liked Matt Groenings:
I plead alignment to the flakes of the untitled snakes of a merry cow, and to the Republicans for which they scam, one nacho, underpants, with licorice and jugs of wine for owls.

This is the best thing ever to happen to the GOP.
Thanks for the extra shot in the arm 9th Circuit Court of Schlemeils

Re-post it -- maybe more will read it.

What about US Currency? Says "In God we Trust". Shall we deem money unconstitutional as well?

When a public schoolteacher - a representative of the gov't - stands before a class and leads them in a recital of the Pledge of Allegiance,Nope. Students have always led the pledge of allegiance and those who don't want to recite it remain silent. If the 9th circuit had a problem with the teacher leading the pledge, they should have said it. What they did was say that children could not say the word God despite what the local taxpayers may think. Soviet Union redux amigo.

I can't wait for Senator Hillary Rodham Clintons reaction to this.It plays right down her alley. She wants to remove anything religious from American society anyway...[sigh]

Someone should ask the Judge if they are going to redesign that, too. You can count on it.
Keep an eye out for the new logo - with the Ten Commandments airbrushed out.

Young children can say anything about God they want even when they are in school (as long as it doesn't disrupt class while learning), but this is about the school endorsing a subject. So if a school is not endorsing religion any particular religion, does that really mean their beliefs are being purged by a tyrant. BTW my name is not "young dude".

Thank you, Howlin.
I was thinking I was losing my mind, hearing things. Guess I missed the laugh.
He obviously didn't even consider his dear little daughter's future. So sad.

Just went to the poll -- I think it's been overwhelmed as it wouldn't post my vote.

I grew up with that pledge too, only I grew up during the forties and early fifties. We didn't say "under God" and it did not lessen the value of the pledge that we made to the flag of our country. This is after all a pledge to our flag and our country, not to God. I can recite the pledge either way and it means the same to me.

And....remove all those specialized 'lifestyle' classes...hmmm.....a child having to sit through those classes would violate someone's rights who did not believe in it.....right???
Now that I think about this ruling...there could be a silver lining.... (said in a sinister voice...)

"This may be the last straw for some who were trying to be "moderates". Eventually you have to draw a line in the sand."
Well said Ray. Look all, this is just slighlty less than declaring the Second Amendment "null and void". This is IT. If the Supremes were to uphold this nonsense, stone masons would be busy for a month in Washington D.C. chiseling the word God of the capitol buildings. Forget FR right now. Go pick up the phone and call your Congress critters and your senators. RIGHT NOW!!!!
To: bonesmccoy
Not at all--I believe in God and I went to a Jesuit school, at which I had a fine education, in both the classics and religion.
However, Government and God have no place in our public school systems. Period. If you disagree with that, do your religious education to your youngster at home or send him to a private school.
I really don't know why people are making such a big deal of this.
