Coulter vs Couric Live Thread
6-26-2002

Posted on 06/26/2002 2:54:17 AM PDT by BigWaveBetty

Here's a live thread for the Today Show interview with Ann Coulter.

Will the perky Katie interview Ann? Will Ann make the perky Katie cry? Will the perky Katie chicken out and have Matt do the interview?
Never thought these words would cross my lips, I can't wait for the Today show!!

The interview will probably be short but oh so SUH-WEEEEEEEEEEET!

All in all, both women came off as intelligent and articulate. Both were clearly a bit nervous and uncomfortable, but both did well overall. Coulter was definitely more restrained and diplomatic than she often is on other shows. No knockout victory for either of them.

Hard to argue against that.

I find your remarks like "NBC's credibility was actually on the line here," and "the producers and staff of NBC probably stayed up with Couric nights to make sure she could hold her own with Ann," to be silly. I think it's funny that people here thought Ann Coulter was going to take on Couric and reduce her to a quiverring pile of Jello, or that Couric would duck the show because she was intimidated by Coulter. I think it's laughable that you think Couric, or NBC, were even slightly worried that Coulter would bring down the network.
Tomorrow, the world will be unchanged because of the exchange on the show today. And all the people who were so sure that Coulter would clobber Couric are reduced here to arguing about whose legs were better.

" And as far as her appearance, he thinks she's an attractive woman but far too skinny for him to consider sexy" Far be it from me to question your husband's taste in women…it just wouldn't be prudent.

So exactly what would you consider too skinny?

Oh, and in the spirit of 'Katie was just asking the question of what an author said', remeber this Couric quote that she opened her Today show with?

"Good morning. Bubba was a rapist! . That's one of the conclusions of a new interview of Bill Clinton accuser Juanita Broadderick that's drawing a tremendous amount of interest and fire today, Monday, September the 27th, 1999."

No? Neither do I, because she never said it. Nor can I imagine her saying it, because her clouded liberal view would not let her and 99% of her liberal friends in the media---an actual standing charge of rape by a sitting president of the US.

The contrast of her attack on Reagan and coddling of Clinton is striking.

Just so you know, the web page I use to post photos sent me a message that they might "lock" my account--and freeze the photos of Ann and Katie I posted (even though I have an "unlimited account.")

I guess that's why the grafix are coming up blank on my browser at 1147 CST.

Good. Keep "laughing"; because they were and are.

That's a ABC show. The "Toady Show" is on NBC,and runs until 10AM.

And that's a good name for it when they're interviewing or talking about some pinko.

COURIC: I have to bring up a section of the book where you talk specifically about me. And this is not where you call me the "Eva Braun of liberalism," which I'll ask you about.

COULTER: The "affable" (Eva Braun of liberalism).

COURIC: Thanks, that makes me feel so much better.

COURIC: You used me as an example of liberal bias against Ronald Reagan and I'm just curious as to why you took it so out of context?

COULTER: Well, I don't think I did. You're taking it out of context.

COURIC: No.....

COULTER: What I said, was - which is true - that the "Today Show" opened, I believe that it was three days in a row, with the announcement, "Ronald Reagan was an airhead. That's the conclusion of this newbook by Edmund Morris." When Edmund Morris came on with you he described that as a grossly unfair characterization of his point.

Couric proceeded to read the direct quote from Morris' book, which Coulter then put in context, explaining that the observation was made after Morris' initial encounter with Reagan "and that the entire course of the rest of his book was contradicting that."

The exchange grew heated once again:

COULTER: So for the "Today Show" to be opening three days in a row (with) "Ronald Reagan was an airhead," I'm sorry, that's dishonest.

COURIC: And also, just for your information, it was just one day.

COULTER: No, you said it one day. Matt Lauer said it another day.

Yup, the Today show is just a pure as the wind driven snow.

And then Americans wake up for another day of left-wing schlock, beginning their day with the CBS Early Show’s Bryant Gumbel somberly asking smut peddler Hugh Hefner for his views on a presidential campaign.

THIS,from a woman who dated the son of the publisher of "Penthouse" magazine?

.Let's just say that legs that are the same diameter in the thigh as in the ankle are unnatrative at best.

LOL! Remember the song,"Make a ugly woman your wife"? Even LeRoi didn't want no woman with no skinny legs.

There is no one more over-rated (As far as looks go) than Ann Coulter on Free Republic.

Ya gotta admit that she has a pretty nice rack for a skinny girl, though.

Please don't misconstrue my impression of Ms. Coulter…I respect Ann strictly for her mind.

Her gorgeous appearance, sexy long legs, and long blonde hair have absolutely nothing to do with my admiration for her. (I will admit reluctantly that she might be a little more lovely if she put on a few more pounds but she is still fabulous as is)

Ann is a MUCH better read than interview or appearance.

Actually, she was MUCH better that Kommie Katie. Much more self-confident and self-possessed. She was at a disadvantage purely because Kommie Katie was well-rehearsed,and had total control over pacing and content. You could see in Kommie Katie's eyes that she was both aggressive and scared. None the less,as the host doing the interviewing, she had the power to change the subject any time she started to get the short end of the stick. Katie even screwed up on what Coulter called her in the book (Eva Braun),and Coulter had to correct her on that.

I agree that Coulter started out a little tentative. She seemed to not want to get personal. She had no choice once Kommie Katie had launched several personal attacks on her,and when she started responding a little more aggressively is when Kommie Katie started to panic. I guess she thought Coulter would just "lay back and enjoy it".

Thanks, man...I just watched it--OUTSTANDING. Ann kept her cool quite nicely and Ms Kolic let her anger show (until the end).

That said, I must say that NBC deserves kudos for having Ann on in the first place and having Katie do the interview.

Ann we love you!

I understand. We're all individuals and entitled to different tastes. That's what makes life interesting. I just couldn't help but ask what you would consider too skinny if you feel that Ann is not.

Since I'm female, I'm not terribly interested in her looks other than a mild feeling that she's too skinny but on the whole attractive. But mostly I find it irrelevant.

I like her because I enjoy watching her make the leftists squirm. She's the best at that.

Your way of "debating" a point with me is to sarcastically misrepresent what I have said. Your last post concludes "Yup, the Today show is just a pure as the wind driven snow." Let me make clear for you what apparently do not understand. I think the "Today Show" is a complete waste of time for a number of reasons, only one of which is the very liberal bias of the co-hosts, the writers, the staff and the management. Maybe that helps you.
However, in this particular thread, the discussion has been about how the interview of Coulter by Couric went today. In earlier threads, I pointed out that what I said a few days ago was correct, and that many here were incorrect, in making such stupid predictions that Coulter would bury Couric, would have her crying, cringing, apologizing, whatever, or that Couric would be afraid to show up today. Such nonsense came from people who are SO biased in their worldview, so hateful of anything and everything they disagree with, that they lose ALL objectivity. There is far too much of that in this forum. There are some very intelligent comments on these boards, but there are also blindly biased viewpoints by those who NEVER want to be objective.
Your intimation that I view the Today show favorably is your very defensive way of burying your head in the sand. Reasonable people understand the interview today did NOTHING to change minds among people who watch the Today show. Coulter bit her lip and played nice for a change. She was polite and diplomatic. Couric scored some points, Coulter scored some points. It's over. The Today Show will be back tomorrow with some kind of pointless stunt or interview with a movie star. Coulter will go back to the media stages she prefers, where she can go back to being witty but condescending.
