The Contender and The American President

I went to see The Contender 'cuz I love Gary Oldman. Blecchhh!! I'm glad he disavowed the movie.

Went to The American President 'cuz my m-i-l wanted to do some female bonding. She loved it. It was torture with Michael Douglas and that weenie Martin Sheen.

Anybody who has any doubt as to the WORST war movie ever, then just rent Battle Of The Bulge and your doubts will be cast aside.

Ah, that explains why I broke out in hives after seeing it.

There was a movie, or it might have been a made for TV movie called "The Longest 100 Miles" set in the South Pacific in WWII. It was undoubtedly cheesy. But it was also extremely funny and unabashedly pro-American so I am afraid I can't nominate it for worst ever.

I'd agree that MASH sucked as far as the (not so) hidden anti war agenda, but it's very realistic in the antics of soldiers trying to make an intolerable situation tolerable. The stories I could tell about my Cav days would absolutely horrify 90% of the US population but it was just GI's blowing off steam. Our good CO's let it slide because they found out our motto "Train hard then Play hard" worked well.

It was never meant to be a serious war movie but a libertarian critique on WWII.

My apologies. I mistook your thread to be open to any movie that had a "war" theme.

My reason for not liking the movie is based on the "realism" and "historical innaccuracy" outlined above.

Okay- I have one to top "Battle of the Bulge". How about "The Patriot". It was a caricature from beginning to end. The British burnt a Church down with women and children in it? I would like to see where that happened? It would be a national memorial today. Also- "Braveheart" was a disgusting distortion of truth.

I thought 1941 was John Belushi's 2nd best role behind 'Animal House'. A beer guzzling fighter pilot flying stunts in a P-40 Warhawk in the Grand Canyon, what could be better?

Actually, I think Kelly's Heroes is one of the BEST war movies ever made!

The original Thin Red Line was made in 1964. I have not seen it, but have read that it was a pretty good film. Jack Warden plays the sergeant. Just for the record, the original was 99 minutes; the more recent stink bomb was 170 minutes. It is an excellent example of the lack of imagination and degradation of Hollywood.

I didn't remember a black Vietnam flick by Singleton - when I look up his filmography, I don't see one in the past, nor among his future projects. I'm not sure which movie you're referring to...

Not only that- The Director wanted to make the film a full six hours= with three intermisions! Can you imagine! I saw that film and was bored to tears in 20 minutes with the constant self speeches in the mind.

Battle of the bulge was pretty bad, the "Tigers" were M48 tanks with black crosses and the US tanks were M24's which probably weren't used very much if at all in the real thing. Contrast that with the Bulge episodes of "Band of Brothers" There's simply no comparison.

It was not singleton- the name of the film was "The Walking Dead" and it was atrocious.

I'd have to say "green berets" wasn't very good either.

Except for the fact that the sun set in the east at the end of the film, it wasn't all that bad.
