Announcing: North Carolina Chapter of Free Republic!
Constitution Day (w/ help from diotima) ^ | June 25, 2002 | Constitution Day

Posted on 06/25/2002 12:31:23 PM PDT by Constitution Day

NC FReepers,

North Carolina has a proud tradition of defending liberty that began when the state was still a colony.
These include the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, the Halifax Resolves, and the Edenton Tea Party.
The first two events happened on May 20, 1775 and April 12, 1776, respectively, and are the two dates on North Carolina's state flag.

The time has come for a new generation of patriots to step forward.
We must help to return our state and nation to limited government and rein the insidious liberalism that has corroded our nation.
Sound impossible? Good thing our forefathers didn't think so. It is up to US.
One specific task at hand is ridding this state of Governor Mike "Taxes" Ea$ley and his DemoRAT minions.

I know I'm "preaching to the choir", but this is a never-ending battle.
Therefore, we are in need of some conservative foot-soldiers to aid in our fight.

Today, I announce the creation of the North Carolina Chapter of Free Republic.
I know that some of us have met informally before, but this will bring us under the umbrella of the Free Republic Network.

I am aware that some of you will have questions on this, so I am doing a FAQ below.

These answers come from diotima, whose help I greatly appreciate.

FAQ:

What is the Free Republic Network?

The FRN is a 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation affiliated with FreeRepublic.com.
For more information, see HERE.

Will the FRN tell us what to do?

diotima says, "the FRN doesn't tell the chapters what to do, you remain completely autonomous."

What about leadership of the local chapter?

Since I am forming the chapter, I will be the current President.
mykdsmom has voluntered to be another leader. I think she should be Vice-President.
I would prefer at least one of the other leaders to be from somewhere WEST of Raleigh.
I live in Rocky Mount and mykdsmom lives in Raleigh, so if we could get a leader from farther west, that would cover a good portion of the state.

diotima adds: "The chapter leaders and executives can stay the same, or once you get the chapter togther you can have elections. We, the FRn do not care how you set up your chapter, if you want to have a president, a Queen, or a Duke. All we want are the names of the people who are in leadership roles in the chapter so we can contact them."

What about meetings?

The chapter leaders & executives will meet online every other Monday on PalTalk.
diotima says, "In these meetings, we discuss what chapters are doing, what help they need, ideas they have for future activities and they talk to one another about chapter issues."

How do I join?

PRIVATELY Freep-mail me your e-mail address. Do not post it on the open forum (unless you really, really love getting spam).

What are the rules?

diotima: "...we technically only provide tools and resources to the chapters. We do not have any rules other than conduct rules which must be followed to use the FR name in public. Every chapter is different and set up differently, so you can organize your chapter the way that best suits your needs."

Who can join?

Any active FReeper who lives in North Carolina.
This includes "Bush-Bots", Elizabeth Dole-haters, Yankees and even Tarheel fans.
Hopefully we won't kill each other when we all get in one room together.

What will we call it?

"The North Carolina Chapter of Free Republic", I suppose. If anyone has a more creative name, let me know.

Okay, that's all for now.
I look forward to our first "official" meeting together!

FRegards,

Brandon
(a.k.a. Constitution Day)

I will say this one negative thing about my BBQ. I havent got the "shredding" down yet. Just havent gotten it right. I got the taste down though.

Any tips on the proper way to shred?

I have cooked a couple whole hogs the past couple years, but most of the time I am cooking for @ 15 people, and a whole hog is just way to much. I usually cook a mix of picnics and butts.

Who constitutes the "state GOP establishment", in your opinion? Please clarify.
If you are implying the state party/HQ, I disagree.

If you are implying certain county chairmen, then I partially agree. But the fact that a person is a county chairman and happens to have a primary favorite is not new.

If you are implying various "individual leaders", then I partially agree. Again, don't paint with such a broad brush.

Good morning.
I don't have the time right now to wade through all the articles I've posted.
I believe billbears & Lee'sGhost can give some short answers.
Of course, you should know that billbears just looooves "Giddy Dolt"! ;^)

I'll check with you later.

FRegards,
CD

How 'bout SOUTHWEST OF RALEIGH ......... like CHARLOTTE ?? OH, BTW ..... John Edwards is a waste of human skin !! (Can I say that ) ?? I LOVE NORTH CAROLINA !!

Anyone is welcome... especially those who know what a slimeball that Ambulance Chaser Edwards is!

If I may make a suggestion, you should modify your profile page so that your location (North Carolina) shows up.
That way, the North Carolina message board will flag you when new messages are posted.

I'm honored that you remember: yeah, I followed through on that threat and got a couple of them made up to see how it worked: and yes, they turned out exactly as you see it (10" x 3"; makestickers.com does a wonderful service).

Well, let's see: I opened this can o'worms, now what? OKAY: I'll take the risk - here's the deal.

I will order a pack of 50 stickers from those guys. If you want one, please do the following:

[1] I am a verified member of paypal.com (alancarp@earthlink.net). Go there, and use the Send Money feature to send me $1.75 each. That will cover postage, envelopes, and the like - no profit!
[2] -OR- Email me at that address above and I'll tell you where to send a check.

...Now of course, if I don't get at least a dozen orders fairly quickly, then I won't bother. But hey, let's see how it goes. Cheers.

The heavier the better.
My dad has two that are made from 1/4" thick cold rolled steel and are about 8" long and 3" or 4" high, with oak handles. His brother made them.

I do that. I even rigged my large wood cutting block with side panels to prevent crap from flying all over the place.

Always seems to come out a little more 'chunky' than 'shredded'. Owell, still tastes great.

LOL!! So that's how you do it. I was just swinging the cleavers. I wasn't saying Whop, whop when I did it though
