Osama bin Laden is to give another televised address to the world.

The al-Qaeda leader is to deliver a hate-filled video on July 4, American Independence Day.

The announcement was made on the Arabic Sahab website which issues daily information on the war in Afghanistan.

Bin Laden was pictured on the site, kneeling between two al-Qaeda officials.

His spokesman Sulaiman Abu Ghaith says: "America should get ready and fasten its safety belt.

"We will come to them from where they don't expect. Yes, we will wage attacks but at the right time, at the place we want, in the way we please."

On Friday the FBI were taking seriously a Lebanese-born man's claims to have overheard a mobile phone conversation in Arabic about an attack on Las Vegas.

But yesterday they said they had no evidence of any threat on July 4.

According to Michael Hamdan, the speakers said: ``"We are here in the city of corruption...the city of gambling and prostitution, the city of the unbelievers.

The warlord, who was behind the September 11 attacks on New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon, has not been heard from since he was detected on December 11 at his eastern Afghan hideout in Tora Bora.

American intelligence sources believe he is surrounded by al-Qaeda's high command either in Afghanistan or Pakistan. The FBI has also been tracing another website, alneda. com, the mouthpiece for al-Qaeda.

The site has audio and video clips of bin Laden and photographs of al-Qaeda suspects in detention in Pakistan.

There also appear to be coded messages for followers to transmit instructions for attacks.

It has been closed down twice by US intelligence forces after appearing in Malaysia and Texas.

Earlier this month the site posted a message of condolence from terrorist and Taliban chief Mullar Mohammed Omar after the death of a Pakistan scholar.

It was revealed yesterday that the man believed to have recruited September 11 hijacker Mohammed Atta to al-Qaeda was investigated in 1999.

Mohammed Haydar Zammar, 41, attracted the attention of German intelligence after making contact with bin Laden's suspected financial chief.

Zammar was arrested in Morocco this week along with other suspected al- Qaeda members, including Abu Zubair al-Haili.

Al-Haili is thought to have been pivotal in training hijackers for September 11.

This story has been around here for a few days now. Circulating in different forms. There is no evidence OBVIOUSLY in any of them. But then again...was anyone looking on or before 9-11? The press is just releasing the same stuff with different headlines for their Sunday editon's.

Very interesting article. I think it is time we told the Islamic world enough is enough and that they had better reign in the Bin Laden fellow. Just simply tell them that there is another attack on American soil and we prove that the Bin Laden group is responsible we will melt Mecca. Period. No bargains, no deals just plain and simple if he attacks us we will use a small thermonuclear device and melt Mecca. ah, thanks ... well I searched for Drudge's keywords (the title) before I put it up ... didn't find it ... I can't imagine why that guy in Las Vegas would make that stuff up ... given that he's an Arab-American he would have to have figured a cockamamie story with no truth would just put the FBI on his trail a lot ... FWIW, I don't find the polygraph conclusive but he could be grandstanding for unknown reasons ... in any case, it would seem prudent to be extra careful around those days (not ... I'm sure they'd like to do something on America's birthday celebration ...

it wouldn't surprise me one bit to find out Saudi Arabia is hiding bin Laden in Mecca ... after all, his daddy built it and it's the holiest site in Islam ... sure I don't trust the Saudis but they've been given multiple opporunities to assist the USA ... and they show their dislike for America repeatedly because of our friendship with Israel ... and even if Israel wasn't there, we'd still be "infidels" ...

Remember when the Saudi Prince wanted no woman in the Air Control Tower in Texas when he arrived? ... heck, I'd have put in a bunch of pregnant women, eating ham sandwiches, dancing to Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis" in the Air Control Towers just to tick the old Prince off ...

In previous statements, they have repeatedly indicated that attacks would be coming very soon. The truth is that if they had the ability to attack as they please, there would be a September 11 every day until America surrendered. However, America is a tough and frightening adversary for the terrorists, especially after what U.S. and allied forces did in liberating Afghanistan. We may have a few bad days ahead, but their side isn't getting stronger, and has many and worse days ahead.

We should be so lucky as to have Bin for part of our entertainment during the Fourth of July. With the Western states in a drought mode and firewirks prohibited, we are sorely in need of additional entertainment. You know...all kidding aside...I (like a number of other fine folks on this very thread) have speculated on the joys of transforming mecca into radioactive slag. However, I wonder if there might be a more immediate and practical approach.

In a word, ridicule. Funny, insulting jokes, pictures, and so forth aimed at bin Laden, moslem fanatics, and the moslem religion in general.

I concede a danger: one must be careful about underestimating an enemy. It would be counterproductive to cause people to believe that bin laden and his islamic fellow travelers are anything less than dangerous vipers.

But keep in mind that the battle being waged is not only with bullets and bombs - it is also for the hearts and minds of large numbers of people. Every convert to islam is a potential convert to terrorism against us.

What might one exploit? The moslem treatment of women seems rich with possibilities. mohammed's nine year old wife is another. The legend of the "Dome of the Rock" is fraught with possibilities...recall that ol' 'hammed mounted a horse with a woman's face and flew to paradise. In fact, the very creation of an image of ol' 'hammed is something moslems don't like.

Right now, the terrorists are having their fun, and we're all letting them act as if they're nine feet tall and well nigh invincible. Per the news, homicide bombers are so numerous that the palies can't build enough bombs to equip them - and I belive that this is partly because they believe such a death gets them respect. But change the paradigm such that they're laughed at, and one may see a change in their behavior.

And note...ridicule is cheap and legal....whereas it is doubtful that our leaders will nuke mecca anytime soon.
