We are honored to introduce to you
G'nad
...."My mom always said she wasn't surprised I wanted to be a Marine...I still love scars and bruises...I acquired quite a collection over the years...
Newly commissioned, boot 2ndLt g'nad......
1stLt and Mrs. g'nad headed for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. She's my best friend...my reality check...God has blessed me with her.
Above and Below...Desert Storm, cleaned up afterwards ... somewhere in Kuwait.......
Reunion with Mrs. g'nad, this photo ran in the OkiMar Edition of Stars and Stripes.......
On the range at 29 Palms with a buddy, our custom rifles, and M-14s...Life is good!.......
Winter warfare training with some of my Marines at the Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, CA. I'm the one standing far left. This was with 2d Marine Regiment... my best time, and my best Marines.......
The family as of Nov '01. Rebecca, Mrs. g'nad, Jake and me on the beach at Emerald Isle, NC.
I knew I wanted to be a Marine since I was three-years-old. I signed my Delayed Entry Program papers in Oct of my senior year, but in December the Officer Selection Officer (OSO) asked me if I wanted to try for an NROTC Scholarship. I never had any intention of being an officer, and my family was too poor for me to even consider college. I was accepted and attended Iowa State University and OCS, and was commissioned. I owe the Marine Corps a great debt.
. Still on active duty as a Major at Headquarters Marine Corps...my first desk job, and it's killin' me...
Been a lot of places, seen a lot of things... some bad, some good. But I have always served with the finest of men, Marines.
I trust in Jesus as my Lord and Savior...I believe in Duty, Honor, Sacrifice, Integrity...
I believe that there is no substitute for hard work... that pain is a good thing...if no one's shooting at you, there is nothing to stress about...oh yes, and beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy...
Die first, then quit.......
G'nad
Thank you Gnad for serving our country and for sharing with us here at the FReeper USO Canteen. It is an honor and blessing to know you.

it would probably be very simple to put a sound card in it. The problem with the one I have is that it is one I got specifically for hooking the computer up to my piano. It is probably more complex then you would want.

That's what I'll do then. BBL
To: Scuttlebutt
That was great! ROFL!
To: RadioAstronomer
No, she doesn't always have timet to read all of it. She normally spot reads it and reads all the posts directed to her, I think.

This is the record length for a Canteen thread, I think!

To: COB1
Hey, COB! I was just wondering about something. Did you get a picture of
that monster flag pole down around Laredo? If so, could you post it her so I
can copy it and post to my article about that flag pole? Muchos gracias in any case!

R.A. SETI....Did you enjoy the movie "Contact"?Yes, but I liked the movie "The Dish more. After I got out of the AF, I ended up at NASA "flying" an interplanetary spacecraft to Venus at JPL called the Magellan. After that "gig" I ended up working on Space Station. The SETI search is a more recent endeavor :-)

I was just thinking the same thing! ;)

20. Use the term "Good Training" to describe any unpleasant task: Scraping the sides of the ship is "Good Training". Spending the night drinking and getting sick the next day is "Good training". Having to sleep on your seabag in the parking lot because there was no room in the barracks is "Good Training."I've always used the term "Builds Character" myself to describe such tasks... hahahaha

Hi..
This is a true story told in person from an Officer who served aboard a U.S. Destroyer named after a Family member[Admiral Civil war] in the Aluetians spring 1944.
USS Isherwood DD-520 was at Anchor in Dutch Harbor...during the officers late bridge watch, he noticed an officer of higher rank approaching the bridge>
"Get the Gig ready" the other officer said as he strowd toward the flying bridge.
My friend piped a call to hands to ready the Gig to go ashore..next thing was a splashing noise..with panicing people rushing around.
Someone rushed into the bridge and said.."The officer went over the frame into the water"!
The water in the Aluetians is butt kicking cold..and you can buy the farm inside 5 minutes...
They pulled the officer out..later it was discovered that he was infact "Sleep walking" the entire time he left his quarters to going overboard.
Story is always good for a roar at the Isherwoods naval reunions.
