(CNSNews.com) - Promising that it will be one of the "most historic gatherings of African people in America," organizers of the Millions for Reparations Rally are demanding monetary compensation from the United States government and its citizens. The theme of the rally is: "They owe us!"
Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), and a critic of the rally, said, "If that many people have enough money to go to D.C. to march, then they don't need reparations."
The Aug. 17 event will take place in Washington, D.C. on the 115th birthday of the late civil rights leader Marcus Garvey. But Peterson said Garvey was an outspoken advocate of post-slavery self-repair for black people in America and would not support the idea of modern day reparations.
The Durban 400 and National Black United Front (NBUF), the lead organizers of the rally, claim their event is "simply an attempt to repair, to make whole, the descendants of the victims of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade."
At the urging of the Durban 400 and other groups, the United Nations' 2001 World Conference Against Racism declared the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade and the pre-Civil War slavery in the United States crimes against humanity.
NBUF National Chairman Dr. Conrad W. Worrill recently urged concerned "African people in America" to review and add to a list of nearly twenty atrocities that, according to Worrill, "they owe us for."
Among the atrocities on the list are the "Raping of African Women," "KKK Night Riders and Lynchings," "Mental Atrocities," the "Crack Epidemic," and "the 13th and 14th Constitutional Amendments."
According to Worrill, "The abolishment of slavery was really a constitutional scam and the 14th Amendment that allegedly made African people citizens of America was imposed on us. We were never asked if we wanted to be citizens."
But David Almasi, spokesman for the black conservative group Project 21, said those seeking reparations forget the benefits of living in America.
"What about the fact that now you're in America, the land of opportunity as opposed to being in Africa with malaria, dictators and things like that," Almasi said.
According to Peterson, "These organizations that are supporting this so-called Millions for Reparations are anti-American organizations anyway. They're communist/socialist organizations."
Peterson added that "so-called civil rights leaders" like Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan have encouraged a culture of dependency among African Americans instead of self-reliance.
Peterson said he especially wants to encourage white Americans to protest those calling for reparations and "not have the fear of being called a racist" for doing so. However, he said, "As long as you give into these people, there is no stopping them. There is no end to their destruction if we don't stand up to them with truth."
The "truth," Peterson said, is that reparations are "a bad idea in that it is divisive, it is racist, and it's another form of using black Americans to gain power and wealth."

I read that UAW and a couple of other unions had a very large presence there all the way from Detroit as well as from auto plant sites in the South. Foxnews coverage provided several shots of a group of them chanting "No recount, No peace." in their Detroit accents. Real concerned Florida voters there, huh?

Glad to have you on FR. There's a fair sized contingent of black conservatives here. Maybe mhking could add you to his ping list. I know he's a conservative, because I see him showing up on most of the threads I'm on. ;-)
BTW, my name is Edd (spelled with twodees). Good to cybermeetcha.

Actually, lots of conservative Southerners still vote democrat for one reason only: the history of the republican party's treatment of conservatives white and black. The gop has never really been conservative and were the very first to use black voters for their own cynical purposes before betraying them and abandoning them in the reconstruction era.
The "Jim Crow South" is what you always hear about from the media, but Jim Crow was a national phenomenon, not just Southern. Institutionalized racism can't justly be blamed on the South alone. It existed nationwide and kept black Americans out of politics for a very long time.
Blaming the South and only one party for nationwide, government sanctioned institutionalized racism just doesn't work. It is maddening to see conservative old timers clinging to the marxist democrat party, but the reasons for it are not as baffling as one would believe from accepting the current mythology from our media.

FR's own
Trueblackman, is a regular on

Republican party founded to oppose expansion of slavery into the territories.
The following exerpts are from Vernon Wharton, The Negro in Mississippi (1865-1890). They describe the end of Reconstruction in Mississippi:
"Once the general policy had been adopted [by self styled Redeemers] that Negro and Republican control of state government was to be broken at tany cost, a number of methods were followed for its accomplishment. One of these involved the intimidation of those whites who still worked with the Republican party . . . As early as December 1874 the Hinds County Gazette declared that death should be meted out to those who continued their opposition. 'All other means having been exhausted to abate the horrible condition of things [Republican rule effected by a white Republican coalition with newly freed African Americans] the thieves and robbers and scoundrels, white and black, deserve death and ought to be killed . . . The thieves kept in office by [Republican] Governor Ames . . . ought to be compelled to leave the State or abide the consequences.' p. 185
*** "Against the Negroes themselves one of the most poweerful forces use dwas economic pressure, All over the state, Democratic clubs announced that no Negro who voted Republican could hope for any form of employment the following year . . .
*** "[T]he democratic leaders of the state, while they often denied the existence of violence, or tried to shift the blame for it to Negroes, never actually repudiated its use . . . [T]he Democratic press adopted the slogan, 'Carry the election peaceably if we can, forcibly if we must." . . . Democratic clubs provided themselves with the latest style of repeating rifles." p. 187
*** A few nights later, the Republicans endeavored to hold a meeting in Yazoo city. Their hall was invaded by a number of Democrats, led by their 'rope bearer,' H. M. Dixon. In the confusion which followed a native white Republican was killed, and several Negroes were wounded. The white sheriff escaped with his life by fleeing to Jackson. White militia then took charge of the county, and systematically lynched the Negro leaders in each superior's district. p. 191.

If reparations are to be made, let the record show that the Republican Party fought to free the slaves, indeed, Republicans created a Party to protest slavery. Truth shows the power of the press, media and universities to rewrite history. The VLWC is based on lies.

I propose the following reparations:
- $100,000
- A ONE-WAY ticket to Africa
- Forfeiture of United States citizenship.
In order to return to the United States the $100,000 must be paid back to the United States government.

I could be mistaken, but it seems that in recent years, more and more minorities are voting their conscience, rather than for the promises the Rats have made over and over.
Not only blacks, but hispanics as well seem to be joining the conservative side. This seems to be a trend, since GWB took office. The fall elections might give us some insight. I expect to see a small but perceptable right drift among minorities.

Ref #64: Okay, points well-taken and understood, but how does that funnel into blacks voting around 90-95% Democrat these days? I still don't get it. If, under your premise, both parties are equally guilty, at least that's what I think you are saying, the point is, minorities perceive Repubs as the Racist Party. Why in H is that? I'm lost, I don't get it. How have the Dems actually done minorities any better, except for offering more free money, which is self-destructive. The inner cities are generally more miserable than ever, despite all the money thrown at them. And, the constant cries for more, more, more. It just doesn't work. Money isn't going to fix it.

Nice try. The trend is the opposite direction. Any pickup would most likely be due to the party moving left, rather than the brown-skinned electorate moving right.

So... This is "millions" in Dog Years terminology???
To: Orion
Not a try. Just my observation among the people I know. We'll see.
To: Don Carlos
What are the numbers of hispanics who voted for Reagan versus those who voted for Dull, and GWB?
How about blacks?
Asians?
Yep, all are down.
Don't live the fantasy - live the reality. We have to keep the base, and by my observations, the base is restless.

Black Southerners have long memories and they haven't forgotten what their own grandparents told them: the republicans never stood up for black folks and used them unmercifully before abandoning them. You seem to have no idea what Reconstruction wrought. Reconstruction was a military occupation of the former Confederate states and was a reign of terror over black and white Southerners alike. The radicals of the republican party behaved so abominably toward all Southerners, white and black that they poisoned relations between the two parties, between the North and South and between black and white Americans for generations to come.
"Let the record show" indeed. You're setting the stage for the republicans to replace the democrats again as the massas on the big liberal plantation by having a republican president push for reparations. I'll be tickled to death when conservatives of all races abandon your rotten, lying worthless socialist party.
No personal offense intended, of course, ma'am. And I agree about Kevin. He's a good spokesman.
