Actually, lots of conservative Southerners still vote democrat for one reason only: the history of the republican party's treatment of conservatives white and black. The gop has never really been conservative and were the very first to use black voters for their own cynical purposes before betraying them and abandoning them in the reconstruction era.

The "Jim Crow South" is what you always hear about from the media, but Jim Crow was a national phenomenon, not just Southern. Institutionalized racism can't justly be blamed on the South alone. It existed nationwide and kept black Americans out of politics for a very long time.

Blaming the South and only one party for nationwide, government sanctioned institutionalized racism just doesn't work. It is maddening to see conservative old timers clinging to the marxist democrat party, but the reasons for it are not as baffling as one would believe from accepting the current mythology from our media.

Ref #64: Okay, points well-taken and understood, but how does that funnel into blacks voting around 90-95% Democrat these days? I still don't get it. If, under your premise, both parties are equally guilty, at least that's what I think you are saying, the point is, minorities perceive Repubs as the Racist Party. Why in H is that? I'm lost, I don't get it. How have the Dems actually done minorities any better, except for offering more free money, which is self-destructive. The inner cities are generally more miserable than ever, despite all the money thrown at them. And, the constant cries for more, more, more. It just doesn't work. Money isn't going to fix it.
