Southwest Airlines will start charging larger passengers for two seats on its 2,800 daily flights starting June 26.
The airline, which operates out of 58 U.S. cities and is the largest carrier at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, will begin charging "persons of size" for two seats if they think they may not fit comfortably in one.

Ok, I give up. Who is the moron that convinced you that you were purchasing a seat?
When I fly, I am making a contract between myself and the airline to deliver me to a specified destination. They accept that contract and money is exchanged.
There is nothing special about the major airlines. If I hire someone at my local airport to fly me to a destination in a small aircraft, I expect to safely arrive at that location.
Seats? I did not hire this pilot to give me a seat, I hired him to fly me to the location I requested.

I recently flew Northwest to Mississippi. The seats on the Airbus were SMALLER than the seats on the AVRO RJ, the little jet that flew from Memphis to Gulfport! Each airline has differing seat belt sizes as well. I had no trouble with the belts on N'west, or Delta, but I had to get an extender on American on a flight a couple of years ago. Sir SuziQ's belt was snug on that flight too, and he's relatively thin!
And while I'm at it... They should have to pay double (at least) for health care. I'm tired of my insurance premiums being high because to the high medical costs related to obesity.
Ignorance? Why should a morbidly obese person have the

Perhaps those of us who do not require two seats should
just turn the tables and sit on top of the really fat folks.
Conversly, small, thin humans should pay less.

Of course, I would have to charge based upon the miles flown, and those discount rates would no longer apply.
Giggle, I just tried to make a fuel calculation with a Boing 747. Include a woman of 280 lbs or 110 lbs. Ok, I would have to charge the fat woman about $3.27 extra.

Good point, my friend, and that is why I always (years before 9/11) have made sure that I'm in an aisle seat. From your post, I see that we have about the same vital statistics (ht./wt.), so I also prefer the aisle seat to avoid my "neighbor's" overflow of flesh and to spare others from having to deal with my shoulder-span by leaning somewhat into the aisle.

I admit it, even if I should be ashamed. One day, my wife and I attented a Scotts festival and they were doing the Caper Toss.
The guy lost control of the Caper and it was heading our way.
Fat people make good shields, so I grabbed my wife and put her over me.
Thankfully, she never knew what I had done, and the Caper missed us by 5 feet.
And you are ignorant because you choose to be. How about people who have a thyroid problem?
Are you aware that a lot of overweight people got that way due to emotional problems? People have been known to turn to drugs, alcohol. How many people do you know have been killed by food addictions? Who is getting hurt by a fat person? Hmm?
So do you think they should be penalized, punished?
