I think in the last 5 weeks we have had at least 3 rockers that have been 6.0 or stronger...just near the area where I live.
I've lived most of my life in the western US and have felt a lot of earthquakes, but never like down here. There is hardly a week that passes without at least one...many never make it to the NEIC list because they are less than 5.0 magnitude.

A 4.4?!?
Out West the tremors are greatly damped by the sand/soil/loam. Whereinas in the East/Midwest...tremors carry much further distances with far greater strength due to the bedrock.

Yes... Madrid Fault ... Hannibal is in the northern east part of the state. The main fault is in the Southeast part of the state.

Do a Google search for "Planet X 2003" and be sure to wear your tinfoil hat.

Just the usual...we seem to always have a few tiles slip off the roof and the wife grabs her catchers glove and heads for one shelf that has a few little statues on it. I keep telling her we need to put bubble gum on the base of the darn things.

I wonder why animals would freak out before an earthquake? Maybe there is some high frequency noise that makes them go mental beforehand. Would be an interesting read, gonna have to check up on that.

Yeah, bizarre stuff. It's been covered on Art Bell lately. And even 'ol Art's not convinced.

Heard of it,but never(thank God) had the chance to observe it for myself. Could it be some sort of buildup of static electricity, due to stresses in the bedrock?

I'm quite pleased we've made it 81 replies and haven't had a single moron claim this earthquake is a warning from God to America about having legal abortion or not supporting Israel enough or not going back to a gold standard or some other such nonsense. FR is making progress.

It's not over yet!

In that case, you should be better off. Bedrock also keeps the shaking in the higher frequency bands; away from the resonant frequencies of most structures.

Give up on Burger King. They just hiked the price of the fish sandwich, and since the only mustard you can get there is only from a packet, there is nothing left to eat.

Perhaps the quake is a punishment from God for my sin and vice. In that case, God missed. I'm in Louisville and my biggest concern is that the center speak that is precariously balanced on my TV hasn't fallen.

I didn't even feel anything, or if I did I ignored it and thought it was usual work-noise. I didn't know about it until a co-worker told me.

Isn't that near the madrid fault that experienced the largest earthquake in the continent 250 years ago?

Nearer to it than to China, but not in the immediate vicinity. The epicenter of the New Madrid earthquake was in mid-Missouri. You can read an interesting account of it HERE.

Ready for this? The other night a guest on the ART BELL SHOW, among other premonitions, said that he foresaw a HUGE earthquake occurring along the lower New Madrid Fault within a short time (year or less.) Is today's quake the beginning? Shudder!

Now, naysayers, don't be too hard on me. I'm just reporting what I heard.
