Tribute to Vietnam Veterans....Please click on picture

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics, beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals, is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women - and that is the force that the USO so serves.

I was in the 434th Army Band at Ft. Gordon, GA - MOS 02B20 - and the 266th Army Band in Saigon (1966) until transferring to the Army's navy - MOS 61B20.
The 266th was the only actual TO&E band in Viet Nam, the divisions had bands, but they were "other duties as assigned" – most that I encountered were mortar detachments assigned to division headquarters. When they weren't playing they were doing fire missions. The first ones I met showed up with their gun trucks and mobil mortars – 81mm set up on 2 ½ trucks.

Ms. Bunny,
As a former member of the U.S. Navy Steel Band (1975-77), Navy Showband South and the Commandants of Dixieland (1977-78), I thank you for putting the spotlight on military bands.

I think I'll call him Ted LEFTurner! (See post #10 for my opinion of TT - the link).......

GUESS WHO TED CALLS THE TERRORISTS
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/701751/posts?page=10#10

June 18, 2002 -- Goofy CNN founder Ted Turner, who once called the 9/11 hijackers "brave," has let loose another humdinger - this time accusing Israel of waging "terrorism" against the Palestinians.

"The Israelis . . . they've got one of the most powerful military machines in the world. The Palestinians have nothing. So who are the terrorists?" Turner asks in an interview published in today's Guardian newspaper in Britain.

"I would make a case that both sides are involved in terrorism," he says, adding that, "The Palestinians are fighting with human suicide bombers - that's all they have."

The Mouth from the South's bizarre remarks immediately drew a blistering response from Israeli officials, who have been battling a slew of Palestinian homicide bombers.

"My only advice to Ted Turner is, if people assume you are stupid, it is just best to keep your mouth shut rather than open your mouth and confirm everyone in that view," said government spokesman Daniel Seaman.

My favorite military tune. Belongs to the 7th Cav but has been adopted by Cavalry units everywhere.

Morning, morning...cloudy and warmish today. Probably going to breed a storm. Little or no news in the land of Kolacky and sauerkraut, oompah bands and polka parties.

Official bird report: Quiet this morning. The chicks are getting stronger every day, and more demanding. Mom and Dad are busier than ever now.

I am a fan of band music in general, but guess my heart is really the Drum Corps style of play (no woodwinds though I play the sax). Seems the later bands get a little modern for me, perfer the 80's sounding marching music. Sorta like the art now a days is just blobs of paint here and there, I perfert the more layered music of the 80 that tended to build ( can't spell carchendo?? to build in intensity).

I want to thank you for all the prayers. They are working. I did not want to say to much yesterday without knowing all the facts. I can say a bit more today about what happened.

My SIL has been running a daycare biz out of her home for over 22 years. She is also one of the heads of the State Daycare Assoc. She is very much a "professional" in every facet of her biz.

Yesterday afternoon, one of her new clients, a 3 month old girl, stopped breathing. My SIL called the Paramedics and started CPR within 45 seconds. The Paramedics were able to revive the little girl. During the trip to the Hospital the girl's heart stopped again, and was brought back a 2nd time.

The girl is now in ICU, going through tons of tests. The Dr's don't know what is wrong. Abuse was ruled OUT right away. The Dr's, Paramedics, Police, and CFS all say she did everything right. Even the little girl's parents say she did the right things.

However, in her State, the laws say that her License is suspended until further notice, CFS must do a full investigation, and all sorts of hoops to jump through. It is a real mess. My SIL is a basket case today. There are a dozen people over there checking things out. My being in another State means I can't do much to help other that ask for continued Prayers for all concerned.

Thanks,

Magoo.
