ZURICH, Switzerland -- An American claims lawyer who helped to force Swiss banks into a $1.25 billion settlement for Nazi victims had to abandon a news conference because of a hostile crowd.
Edward Fagan had to make his retreat on Monday after announcing to reporters that he would file a multi-billion suit against top Swiss and U.S. banks for propping up South Africa's former apartheid regime.

I heard that holocaust victims got $500 each for winning the case. The lawyers pocketed most of the money into .... swiss bank accounts.... tell me who is exploiting whom here? Obviously lawyers are Nazies.

He may be a typical anti-gun, transvestite (executive), brit, but he is one of the funniest comics since Martin Lawrence.

What about the current APARTHEID REGIME against WHITES?

Thinking outside the box, if a bank is financially answerable for the suffering, then what about lawyers who represent repeat criminals. The first time someone is charged with a crime, they would not have a criminal record. But the second time a criminal is charged with a new crime, then would not the lawyer who defends the criminal be financially answerable for the suffering. Seems using Mr. Fagans logic this maybe a new area for lawsuits.
Could the victims of a crime sue the defendants lawyers?
Let the games begin.

Locals jeered and heckled Fagan, telling him "Go home!" and "Wash your dirty linen elsewhere." Good for the Swiss!

This guy may be an American, but this sort of sham claim is disgusting. As an Attorney, I cannot express too strongly my contempt for this sort of thing.
Whether this man and CNN like it or not, South Africa was a legitimate State, recognized by all nations of any consequence; dealing honorably with its creditors and all with whom they had business dealings. South Africa's young men fought beside America's in World War II and in Korea. As one who has spent some time in South Africa, I can tell you that I never felt more totally at home anywhere else on earth. Indeed, the pioneer monuments of South Africa so resemble the images of the American pioneers as to make the hair stand on the back of one's neck.
What has always impressed me, since I spent a good part of the summer--their winter--in South Africa in 1966, is that those Americans who liked South Africa were the same people who defended the American tradition of limited Government and maximum individual freedom--or individual responsibility, and settler values. Those who led the demands for boycotts and isolation, were the same people who wanted to Socialize America; who looked to bigger and bigger Government in Washington, to solve every problem, real or imagined. That Mr. Fagan would file this ludicrous suit, tells me where he stands. He is no friend of the American Republic. South Africa has been a metaphor for those who hate America for forty plus years!

November 1 -- Swiss banks vindicated. A four-year investigation has concluded that "[m]ost dormant Swiss bank accounts thought to have belonged to Holocaust survivors were opened by wealthy, non-Jewish people who then forgot about their money." Although officials at first assumed that a large share of the 10,000 older dormant accounts would turn out to be those of Nazi victims, only about 200 were, accounting for around $10 million. A public relations and litigation campaign led by American trial lawyers forced Swiss banks into a $1.5 billion settlement of claims that they withheld money from Holocaust victims' families. (Adam Sage and Roger Boyes, "Swiss Holocaust cash revealed to be myth", The Times (London), Oct. 13; see Aug. 29, 2000; May 31, 2000 (second item); Feb. 5, 2000 (second item); Aug. 25, 1999).

Yes, but the Swiss? C'mon, there have got to be more deserving countries out there--France, maybe, or Sweden. Not one of the few European countries I like!

Ah, you're already here. This is why I should read to the end before I post. Stupid, stupid, stupid! (/hitting myself in the head)

What I am wondering is, "How did the Swiss know that he had dirty linen?" parsy.

I thought I was the only one here who enjoyed that show and L' ed MAO! I wonder if it's available for rent--I missed the first few minutes of it.

It should be. I have Direct TV with like 5 HBO's so I get to see it quite a bit. All of it is hilarious. Although at the first he does bash 2 amendment supporters. Still, in a funny way.....

This attorney, Edward Fagan, was also attacked in the article "Holocaust Reparations--A Growing Scandal," published in the mainstream Jewish neo-conservative magazine "Commentary" about two years ago. A good article, but the author made a decision to pull it from the Internet when the link started being misused by Jew haters. The holocaust scandal is mostly that, with the real victims dead or quite elderly, scumbag lawyers like Fagan are trying to get money for distant relatives of the actual victims. It is a little like the effort to get slavery reparations.
