Every individual who lives in or visits the nation's capital is now an enemy of the state. Or so it seems. How else to explain the vast network of closed-circuit cameras that are popping up all over town? If you think this is hyperbolic rhetoric

And there are enemies within, who are plotting ways to carry out atrocities, and are planning to strike.
Wake up and think, people! Our Great Nation is at War against those who despise our Freedom and wish to destroy us! And there are those who wish to hinder the Homeland Security Forces ability to do their jobs???
There are families who are willing to be implanted with chips in order to help the authorities combat terror. And on the other hand, there are objections to having your phones tapped, Internet activities monitored, surveillance cameras, etc?? Can you not see how wrong-headed this is? Is it just plain ignorance, or is it a form of mental illness? A subconscious death wish for themselves, their loved ones, and all of America?
Leslie, 46, said she was motivated by security concerns. The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks hit close to home: Her family lives in South Florida, where authorities say 14 of the 19 hijackers lived. Her office is a block away from tabloid publisher American Media, where a photo editor died after contracting anthrax. The world would be a safer place if authorities had a tamper-proof way of identifying people, she said.
"I have nothing to hide, so I wouldn't mind having the chip for verification," Leslie Jacobs said. "I already have an ID card, so why not have a chip?"
More citizens should be following the fine example set forth by the Jacobs family. Please write to your Congressmen, and tell them you would like to see more surveillance, and would like a National ID program that includes chip implants.
That is just a matter of word games. Everyone has a right to their own private property, and to control said private property. Therefore, private property owners have every right to keep others out. That includes survalience equipment. So broad statements, like "there is no right to privacy" is just semantics.
Nononono, we can't have that! Our Masters in DC MUST BE SAFE! If anyone who knew of their comings and goings (take that phrase as you will), they would not be as safe, which means that we are all in danger. /sarcasm>
Just like Clinton, whenver they talk about anything "for the American people", they only mean themselves. "The Safety of the (300,000,000) American people" is enhanced by a few dozen cameras, all of which happen to surround DC... uh-huh.
There seem to be a lot of people that think that the danger of more terrorist attacks has passed. This is not so. There will be more attacks. America can minimize the opportunities available to terrorists by maintaining a Military offensive against terrorist organizations (as we're doing now), and instituting strict security measures. What is our alternative? To be sitting ducks? No thanks!
I know this, and you know this. We can only hope that others will wake up in time to see it,too.
Hey, it could happen. It just depends on which direction the cameras are pointed.
Resistance...because it feels so good!
Cowards. Please enlighten us all as to how surveilance equipment, a National ID or chip implants would PREVENT any terrorist from obtaining their objective?.
It is you who are clueless and a coward. You choose to forfeit your responsibility for your security to a government who is unable to perform that function, as has been already proven.
If you choose to be treated like livestock, knock yourself out, however don't attempt to include the rest of us who are intelligent enough to know different.
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

I'm having trouble understanding why you don't understand...
...that the biggest danger we're in is the fact that we're losing our precious liberties.
Ooohhh - I like that sentiment!
There is an American Company called Visionics that sells Facial Identification Software. The video surveillance systems can employ this software as an aid in capturing terrorist. I know the software can be defeated by wearing a costume, but what are the odds that the terrorists will actually wear a costume everywhere they go? Sooner or later one of them will slip up, and that might tip Law Enforcement off to a possible attack. Who's to say that it wouldn't help?
"In my mind, the loss of privacy FAR outweighs any possible benefit to being watched. I'd rather have my privacy and be responsible for my own safety."
Privacy is definately a consideration. As Thomas Jefferson said, "The price of Liberty is eternal vigilance." I say let the Security procedures go ahead, but stay informed on current events. Let your Representatives know if you don't like what they're doing. Otherwise America's citizens and leaders will all be sitting ducks!
Or don't wake up, and stink.
Dead bodies decompose and give off an awful odor. That's about all they're free to do.
The libertarian froot loop set here demands liberty without regard to security.
Liberals demand security without regard to liberty.
A few wise citizens demand liberty AND security.
Common sense tells you that losing your precious life is every bit as big a danger.
Why is it so hard for you absolutists to find balance in life? Why can you not understand that dead people are not "free" in any meaningful sense?
You will lose your liberty.....
and gain only an APPEARANCE of security.....
And you'll love it when you hear the boots on your front porch in the middle of the night.
Fool.
Maybe they just focusing on different extreme dangers than you are.
Their sofware failed. See article
Some delusional sheeple want their cake and eat it too.
