What exactly is in the water over there in Utah that makes Families mess with their pretty, blonde, female children?

Well, I do love Klass. He knows his stuff and he has been completely frustrated the last few days...which makes me believe there was more to this than meets the eye.

FOXreport just said SLC Trib is going with a story in the am paper that a family member may be responsible. A detective says that the screen was cut from the inside to give the appearance that someone came in that way. Window is too small for an adult to enter. Other clues and indications of an inside job.
Guess we'll find out tomorrow. Hopefully, this means she's still alive.

I told my husband that their was something weird about this abduction the very first time that I heard the Uncle do an interview instead of the father. He was evading answers about the family right from the start. It was obvious that he was covering up something.

during an interview on MSNBC one of the uncles continually shook his head from side to side in a negative response even when he was answering affirmatively. It was very strange. I'll have to try an catch the replays. Sounds strange to me, too.

Not up on the SLC Trib site yet as far as I can tell. Still got the wednsday stories up.

My money is on the Uncle. Mine too! And he seems so normal but strange the way he's been acting. Stopping a profiler from doing a schetch of the little girl is not normal for a caring uncle. That would be HORRIBLE if it is him or anyone else related to the family.

So he's Uncle Tom. Well somebody get that Police Dog from Penn. on the case and the case will be solved in no time at all. CHOMP.

Perhaps the same thing found in Appalachian waters? Rural VA isn't that far from WV, which is quite similar to N. GA, which is where they filmed 'Deliverance'. 6 degrees of dueling bangos.

yes...you are right about the drama....but we know at least have a newspaper, not the Desert News...that has got credible reports from four police agencies....
pretty important imo

I think you may be right.
I refuse to turn over there and confirm....I've already let that CNN evil juju into my livingroom trying to confirm this story...
Mandatory 24 hour minimum before I check in again.

That would be HORRIBLE if it is him or anyone else related to the family.I think he is guilty of knowing the person who is responsible for this crime. He intends to cover this up because it will embarrass him and his family greatly.
Now who can it be though? That is the question.

Runaway? Hmmmm NOW there is something that did not even enter the thought pattern. I say that is very slim.
Well, that was my guess and that of a few others literally SECONDS after the news of the kidnapping hit the wires and then FR.....but generally it was a feeling hat there was something fishy about the whole thing, even if it wasn't obvious what it was.
I also speculated that the police, even if they had suspicions about the story, would basically play along for a while and keep a low profile, treating it like a stranger abduction, while investigating their suspucions behind the scenes and simply looking for the girl; you wouldn't hear about any police suspicion till much later...with the polygraph for the father, and now this, seems I as exactly correct about that, at least.
Of course, not to be lost is that this SEEMS to be good news; I suspect her chances of being alive are FAR greater if taken by even an extended family member rather than some homeless drifter with a criminal record or something.

Son is possible. Covering for someone. Is this why so many gathered so early in the morning? To get some advice on how to handle things?

From KSL TV...
A Salt Lake newspaper says investigators believe the kidnapper of 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart could have been a member of her extended family.
The Salt Lake Tribune said in a copyright story Thursday that detectives have been unable to explain how the abductor could have entered the house through the small window that appeared to be the entry point.
The newspaper, which said the information was from four law enforcement agencies, which it did not identify, said investigators have surmised that someone who was already inside the home may have tried to make the window look as though a break-in occurred there. It said the screen appears to have been cut from the inside.
Police have said the window was not in the bedroom shared by the girl and her 9-year-old sister. They refused to say where it was located and they refused to say whether the screen had been cut.
Police spokesman Fred Louis declined to confirm or deny that the screen had been cut from the inside. He would say only that police were not going to discuss the physical evidence.
Regarding the newspaper's statement that the abductor might have been a member of the extended family, he would only repeat the statement police have made all along _ that they have not ruled anyone out.
Police have said they did not believe the missing girl staged the abduction.

Bingo. Not a stranger, known to family. When I heard that the abductor allowed Elizabeth to stop and put on her shoes, I thought
that only someone who sorta cares for the girl would do that. Hope she's all right.
