My money is on the Uncle. He is acting wayyyyyyyyyy too paranoid. Keeping Mr.Klass away and well known sketch artist who did Polly's sketch and the unibomber's.

That was my thought also

I HATE the prerecorded news after 10 PM. I am a night-owl. Why can't they have a live broadcast 24 hours???

I'm a night owl too. But the problem is that 99% of America on the Eastern Standard Time zone is sleeping at this very moment. Don't you have work or something in the morning? :)

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that is why. If FOX aired a midnight to 2 am live news, then 1 hour from 5-6 am of world news...they would be set. Just replay O'Reilly from 2-3 and Fox Report from 3-4. If they did this 7 days a week...they would have the market won over. CNN at least turns it over to their International station.

It is cheaper to run replay's of shows they pay so much for as it is I guess than to have someone there during the night on the payroll. It really sucks. If I was running the news dept. at Fox it would run this way. I would also clean up their weekends in a hurry.Boring as all hell.

Interesting OReilly Segment RE: Elizabeth Smart (6/11)

"...O'Reilly then asked Klaas if the family was following his (Klass's) advice. Klaas said the he had strongly recommended a forensic artist to help the young sister get the face of the abductor on paper, since that was the best clue they had. Klaas said that though the police were reluctant to do this, he had almost convinced the mother and father to meet with the artist, but that the meeting was nixed at the last minute by Elizabeth's uncle. Ask why the uncle did this, Klaas said he had no idea..."

Various reasons why the cops might not want it - tactical, maybe. But the uncle?

Some say Klass is pushy, but I think he's a smart and subtle guy who knows what he's doing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know, I need a little more tinfoil for my hat.

Not necessarily.

The great majority of violent crime is perpetrated by familiar people. Familiar as in Family.

They all have commentators on duty 24/7....if something was really "breaking" then they break in and let us know.

This isnt anything big right now....the title of this thread is misleading.

There should've been a question mark at the end of it.

DRAMAQUEEN ALERT

abner reported earlier that her appearance with the Balloon Flag was cancelled for the Today show tomorrow am to make room for breaking news and interviews in the Smart case. Was NBC tipped off? Banfield sounded like she knew something was going down tonight.

Hmm...I'm being quite the hypocrite even reading or posting on these threads given my tirade about cases like this getting too much media attention, relatively to other issues, in the national news, on the last thread about the case today.

But I guess I got sucked in when I happened to read the very first post on this case on FR and made the first reply, in which I was the first person to speculate that there was something that didn't sound quite right about this incident and the story of the sister; and then got subjected to the self-appointed thought police of Homeschool Chick or whatever her name is getting deeply offended when anyone didn't have what she considered to be the precisely correct emotion or opinion or whatever regarding the case.

The sister mentioned nothing about a mask. And the abductor talked to her. And the sister could see well enough to see he had a gun and what color clothes he was wearing. If it's a family member isn't it a bit odd she doesn't mention that? I mean, I'd even know my second cousin I haven't seen in 5 years if he broke into my house.

Lord knows whether this media report is true (based on some guesswork and off-the-record comments, it seems) but I remain convinced along with a lot of others that this won't turn out to be perfect-family-has-perfect-girl-kidnapped-by-ravenous-random-stranger-sexual-predator; it will turn out to be something pretty strange and not what you expect. My initial guess that it was a runaway and she may have gotten her sister to cover for her was obviously incorrect, of course.

It strikes us odd that the girls did not scream or gasp loudly when awakend by a stanger. If a stranger were standing in your room and woke you would you not scream automatically? But, if it were someone familiar to you, you might be startled but may not scream. So, if the girls did not scream which would have woke the other family members then it may just be an extended family member that abducted her.

Yes. His act was shakey from the start. Bets down.

Okay, some of the weirdness might start to make sense.

This is from the article that you posted: investigators believe the kidnapper of 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart could have been a member of her extended family.

What the does the pc term extended family really mean?

Yes, I saw that. What can be the motive? It's just abnormal. Unless he has something grave to hide.

Honestly, I'm not sure which uncle it was. If Hannity had a show archive then I'd look it up, but I don't think he has one.

Maybe I missed something but didn't the sister see the abductor and wouldn't she be able to point out her uncle without the use of a sketch artist?

Girl is young, 8. she may have imagined up more than she saw, or is scared - or was sleepy. That has been a curious angle, and if cops no more they won't tell. All very curious.

I had been thinking that someone who had attended the recent large funeral for the grandfather, might be the perp. Somehow the person saw her there (did she perform with her harp) and decided "she's the one". Also wonder if any extended family/distant relatives are members of a splinter group that thinks 14 is a good marrying age.
