Good morning, Snow Bunny, How are you today? Thank you for doing this. When I was in high school back in the "dark ages"--according to our daughters--one of my favoirite old books in the high school library was one about submarines. I think it was "Run Silent, Run Deep". Morning everyone. I hope you all have a wonderful day. MamaB

Paul McCartney has been a champ in supporting the U.S.
in our War on Terror since 9-11.

Congratulation, Paul! I wish you and your new wife the very best!

Castle is romantic setting for McCartney wedding
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/698132/posts

Excerpt:

McCartney, 59, and his 34-year-old fiancee smiled bashfully for the applauding crowd Monday as they briefly spoke of their impending marriage.

McCartney said his brother Mike would be best man. Mills said she had helped make her own dress.

"I designed it, working with a couple of wonderful women," she said.

The rock star, whose mother was originally from Monaghan, added: "We are not going to worry about the rain, we are going to have a good time."

Three tents and a dance floor have been built along the side of the lake set in about 1,000 acres of grounds. There is a helicopter pad for guests who don't want to drive to the remote location near the Northern Ireland border.

McCartney and Mills a model who lost a leg in a 1993 motorcycle accident met at a charity function where she was raising money to oppose land mines.

Before her accident, Mills helped set up a refugee crisis center in the former Yugoslavia. Later, she established the Heather Mills Trust to raise money for young disabled victims of war and provide artificial limbs for land-mine victims.

The recipient of several humanitarian achievement awards, Mills advocates a land-mine ban and counsels amputees.

In July 1898, a small boat fell beneath the waves in New York Harbor, off Staten Island. The event caused great celebration. For the boat was called the Holland, and she was designed to sink.

Ah! But the roots of The Silent Service go back even further than that!

What remains to be seen is whether or not they can talk in complete sentences with out makin' animal noises or using language polite folks don't use when ladies are present. :-p

Thanks for this thread Snow Bunny. I admire anyone who can work on a Submarine. I have such bad claustrophobia, I think I would go crazy. I don't think anyone could even get me to get in one.

Morning Bunny.

My son-in-law -- in his first active duty tour with the Navy -- was aboard nuclear submarines. As someone who got panicky when they closed the hatch on the submarine ride at Disneyland, I had great admiration for his ability to even go aboard one of those boats, let alone serve on one.

As is typical of so many submarines, as I came to find out, he was very reserved about everything he did aboard ship. He mastered the fine art of talking about it while saying nothing. But I did come to appreciate what it took him to qualify for those twin dolphins. From what I gather, only SEAL training is tougher, and maybe not by much.

I've not seen that one but if memory serves the consences here was it wasn't very good.

I've got a good buddy he was recon(68). His wife has finally gotten trained to go out in public, however he still is prone to jump to attention and shout Semper Fi drop down and start doing push-up. When this happens Lyn says the only thing that works is a swift sharp blow to the back of the head, it's not like there's much up there to hurt.

There are only two kinds of boats. Submarines and Targets
