Al- Quaeda probably has a LOT of potential operatives still here.
The Nazis and Soviets probably left a lot of operatives (real and potential) here when they cashed it in. Once the head was gone, the arms withered.

Perhaps.

Then again, if we expand it a little bit to "Muslim" males, we'd probably be able to do the job with a lot more effectiveness. If we combine that with eliminating the restrictions that Frank Church foisted onto the CIA and FBI, then we'd be in good shape.

C'mon, folks. It seems my "something" was interpreted by some to mean an act, rather than simply an arrest. I meant they could stage the arrest -- the prevention of an act of terror -- to justify their existence, not that they would stage an act of terror.

Dirty Bomb: Misconception. Not nuclear. More people die from the blast rather than the radiation.

I am surprised folks have not given the Arafat comment about big explosion more weight.

I must have missed this. Can you provide details? Thanks.

I also want to point out to all the people who have been profiling proponents that this is a perfect example of why profiling is not a solution.

Profiling by ethnicity won't do the trick, but we do have to start using the Israeli way to profile. They look not for weapons as we do, which is a waste of time. The Israelis look for the type of person who would fit a terrorist profile, and I hope we're listening to their experts.

Absolutely.

If I am engaged in a war with a certain outfit, and I come into some information that I eventually have to reveal, I am certainly going to chose to reveal it at the most advantageous time for my side.

If holding to close to the vest for a month allows us to monitor those who were attempting to do business with this guy a bit longer until they realized he was not coming back, then great. If talking about it now somehow causes difficulty to Al Qaeda's current plans, then saving it for now is great by me. And if releasing the information now makes it more difficult for Daschle and crew to undermine the administration for their desired goal of taking power (at our expense), then I am for that as well.

It looks like they may have caught the guy in the early planning stages. He may not have had the components yet. U.S. Arrests Alleged Terrorist

Why you got to slam our Country so much? If these boys stop even one of us from being killed, it's a good day and a good job.
So anything the government does that makes us potentially "safer" is a good thing? I'm not ready to give them that kind of leeway. Neither were the Founders and Framers.

It's not slamming "our country" to question the government. Otherwise, a lot of us would have been considered disloyal for what we thought of the Sinkmeister.

Bill Nye parrots statist lies on "global warming."

The Wilder story is one of rugged individualism.

You're not a libertarian by any chance are you?

Oh please. The biggest conspiracy nuts on this forum are cultural conservatives. I'm a hard core Libertarian and I'm constantly battling with people who think every plane crash is a government coverup of a terrorist shoe bomb or a friendly fire shoot down.

I'll believe it when there is evidence for it -- not just because it is easy to assert a conspiracy.

Profiling "Arab looking types" simply means the smart and resourceful terrorists (in other words, the dangerous ones) will use people who don't fit the ethnic profile.

Which will GREATLY cut down on the available pool of potential terrorists. Hint: There’s not a lot of blonde dudes named Sven looking to die for Allah.

It's not only wrong, it's dangerous.

Yeah, getting blown up by a Chinese woman is so much worse than getting blown up by a young “Arab male.”

What exactly is stopping “the smart and resourceful terrorists” from recruiting outside the ethnic profile now?

Anyone else think the AG has created this story to generate positive FBI & CIA news?

No, thankfully I'm not that cynical yet.

Agreed on getting rid of the Church restrictions, though its my understanding a lot of those have been gutted already.

Profiling "Muslims" would be as ineffective as racial profiling. We're not required to register our religion with the government yet, and IMO that's probably a good thing.
