>>>I think the fact that Rush is intellectually honest...

That's open to interpretation.

I listened enough, Monday through today, and concluded on several occasions, Rush acted quite foolishly. Out of character for Rush.

>>>... has given life to conservatives and hope that perhaps there can still be change in the Republican party back to it's true colors.

I'm not sure what "conservatives" you're referring to. Outside of several rightwing factions, several fringe media malcontents and a highly vocal portion of folks here on FreeRepublic, the President remains in good standing with a big majority of American's. And conservative Republicans, support President Bush in overwhelming numbers. I think Rush overreacted and then trying to back track, stepped in it again.

Did I miss something?

I thought the George W. Algore remark was in an email he read on the show? Not original to Rush. Why blame him for a comment from a listener?

excellent post, wrhine.

i heard, today, that the census bureau stated that the united states is accepting more IMMIGRANTS at a faster rate than since the 1950's.

that is frightening in light of the fact that we are at "WAR."

There is global warming over the long term. Human activity has increased greehouse gas emissions. Human activity most likely causes some global warming. The issue is whether the warming caused by human activity is anything more than minimal and whether that actually harms anyone.

I don't really think that's the issue, as you've conceded way too much ground for no scientific reason.

I posted this elsewhere, but I think it's pertinent...

From a scientific standpoint, you pretty much can be certain that even in the unlikely event that man is "causing" global warming, no one will ever be able to prove it. Here's why...

1. The Earth has been getting warmer since the last Ice Age ended about 12,000 years ago. From a climatological standpoint, the mesoscale baseline is: global warming.

2. Based on everything we've ever learned from archaelogy, this warming trend wasn't caused by man-made greenhouse gases.

3. We don't know now (and may not ever) what caused the warming trend.

  • Was it a bunch of volcanoes?
  • Solar weather fluctuates too, something we're only beginning to understand... Did the Sun get hotter?
  • Was it something else?

4. Although the overall trend is warmer, there are still other flucuations up and down along that gradually rising line.

  • About 4,200 years ago ancient civilizations in Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley (Mohenjo-Daro), and elsewhere suffered catastrophic decline or disappeared. Best evidence now is an intercontinental famine caused by a planet-wide drought. But eventually that passed.
  • For several centuries before the glory years of the Vikings Scandinavia experienced milder winters and longer growing seasons. This led to the population explosion that enabled their expansion. The decline of the Vikings coincides with the cooling of the Nordic regions.
  • Which leads us to the Little Ice Age, which lasted in Europe from the 1300s to the 1600s. Glaciers advanced and growing seasons were shorter. And that too, passed.... All without an industrial civilization to change the global climate.

5. So not only is the overall climatological baseline over the last 12 millenia gradually warmer, without human intervention, there are also fluctuations along that baseline that demonstrate greater variance over longer periods than what the Chicken Littles claim they're observing now. And there's not even a consensus on that.

In science there's a burden of proof, and the global warming crowd hasn't met an ounce of it.

We don't need to pretend otherwise.

I don't mind if Rush disagrees with Bush. But he rants and raves for days. I am getting sick it. Can't he say something positive about Bush? Sean Hannity is the same. They are soooo proud they're not Kool-aid drinkers. What did Reagan say about not speaking ill of another Republican? I won't go as far as Miss Marple and give up on Rush forever-but for now *CLICK*

"Shanklin's Dubyuh sounds eerily like his Clinton"

"I know!! He needs to work on his south "western" accent."

LOL...singing in another accent that is not yer own is a God-given talent, IMHO. Shanklin does a pretty good LIEberman, Gore, McStain, etc., and whups Lib'ral butt on his Clinton, but he definitely hasn't mastered the Dubyuh.

Some of you people take the wrong things WAY too seriously. If somebody serves you a fish and there are inedible bones in it, do you throw out the whole fish? Of course not! You pick out the bones! With all the outrage commited around us daily, the last thing we need is to lose our grip over is what does or does not constitute humor. Lighten up. I don't say that to be insulting, just to suggest that maybe we ALL have more important things to be focused on.

Doesn't matter if it was in an email. Rush should have known better. It was replayed on many liberal news programs and served no good purpose, except to insult the President. Another example of conservatives eating their own, one more time.

I don't define conservative, by looking at a person who is called conservative and seeing what it is that he believes. I define conservative with the Constitution, liberty.

So, now opposing illegal immigration makes one an extremist nut?

Yes, this seems to be the case, and it gets worse from there.

In reply to #310 and #311--

It is true that the Administration is still against Kyoto, but I think it is fair to say that the leftist position on the cause of global warming has been legitimized. The main argument now is what, if anything, should be done about it.

Maybe this is not a flip flop by the Administration but it sure has been a surprise to me. I had assumed wrongly that top Administration officials would view the premise that human activity is likely mostly to blame, as junk science.
