Oh, and PS. According to another, senior FReeper this thing (the report.. JUST WHY we are wasting time issuing reports to the UN is another matter entirely) was in the works from the Clinton days.

I think this is mountains and mole hills.

Amazing how many freepers were quick to dis Bush

I am one of many that were upset by Bush's left turn on CFR, Farm Bill, Education, Global Warming etc. Maybe he's is going to come back to his base since we were the ones that got him to the WH. On many threads I have posted my disgust on his refusal to dismiss Klintoonites and replace them with Americans. (See GAO, DOJ, WH leaks). I am proud of his stance on this one,but I don't see any heads rolling for preparing the report. I'll wait and see.

My take, from the NYT, via Drudge and Rush was that:

The Dubya administration (1) Admitted Global Warming (2) Blamed us for it.

I am sick of being guilten and slammed by peta, the enviro-weenies, the euro-weenies and all the other weenies.

If it were true, then it would have been a major, major policy shift and completely and totally the fault of shoddy science and Dubya's EPA (headed by the useless Christy Whitman, a Dubya appointee) Especially after he laughed off Koyoto. Total 180.

But from my scanning and search I didn't find anything other than what basically ammounts to: "Yeah, maybe it is getting hotter.. but there's no data to prove it's our fault or that we could do anything about it even if we wanted to.. So screw it and just wear shorts"

That's a far cry from the provocative quotes I saw on Drudge and heard from Rush. Perhaps I missed something, the document is linked and other FReepers are free to read it and point out any errors on my part if they have the inclination to do so.

Exactly what do you call his flop on CFR?

Truth is, I didn't agree with PresBush signing CFR. I happen to oppose all restrictions on political campaign contributions. As long as there is immediate and full public disclosure, I'm satisfied. But i'm a realist too.

There were many in Congress, who didn't see this law as unconstitutional. There were many others, who agreed to it, knowing the SC would strike down certain portions as unconstitutional. This was one of the purest political issues, to come along, in quite some time. In my estimnation, the whole idea was to get this over with, once and for all. To get John McCain and his partner Russ Feingold out of the way for good. This was an issue that barely showed on the publics radar screen, but had tremendous potential for growing into a monster political issue and one that would have further clouded the atmosphere in Wash-DC.

Actually, I'm not dumb enough to think there isn't global warming. I just don't know what causes it. You just cannot dismiss out of hand the fact that MAN has to have something to do with it.

From a scientific standpoint, you pretty much can be certain that even in the unlikely event that man is "causing" global warming, no one will ever be able to prove it. Here's why...

1. The Earth has been getting warmer since the last Ice Age ended about 12,000 years ago. From a climatological standpoint, the mesoscale baseline is: global warming.

2. Based on everything we've ever learned from archaelogy, this warming trend wasn't caused by man-made greenhouse gases.

3. We don't know now (and may not ever) what caused the warming trend.

  • Was it a bunch of volcanoes?
  • Solar weather fluctuates too, something we're only beginning to understand... Did the Sun get hotter?
  • Was it something else?

4. Although the overall trend is warmer, there are still other flucuations up and down along that gradually rising line.

  • About 4,200 years ago ancient civilizations in Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley (Mohenjo-Daro), and elsewhere suffered catastrophic decline or disappeared. Best evidence now is an intercontinental famine caused by a planet-wide drought. But eventually that passed.
  • For several centuries before the glory years of the Vikings Scandinavia experienced milder winters and longer growing seasons. This led to the population explosion that enabled their expansion. The decline of the Vikings coincides with the cooling of the Nordic regions.
  • Which leads us to the Little Ice Age, which lasted in Europe from the 1300s to the 1600s. Glaciers advanced and growing seasons were shorter. And that too, passed.... All without an industrial civilization to change the global climate.

5. So not only is the overall climatological baseline over the last 12 millenia gradually warmer, without human intervention, there are also fluctuations along that baseline that demonstrate greater variance over longer periods than what the Chicken Littles claim they're observing now. And there's not even a consensus on that.

In science there's a burden of proof, and the global warming crowd hasn't met an ounce of it.

Hence, we can safely dismiss them... out of hand

Hey, if the beaureaucracy is so stupid, then why doesn't he fire them? This is stupid. Bush is trying to have it both ways. He should have hired competent people.

How many damn times does he have to state his position before people actually believe him? Well, just like the Egyptian 'revelation', look for another recycled 'news' story to be 'revealed' byt the NYT. Yawn.

I trust President Bush to be doing the very best job possible. When I hear the latest outrage in the press, I wait until I read Freerepublic where some Freeper will have detailed knowledge to clear up the leftist press's insinuations.

But isn't that the complaint about this report? When it's pointed out that it means nothing and has no specific policy recommendations, the rejoinder is that it provides ammo to the enviros. If we shouldn't worry about what the Left will do, then who cares?

This report was botched in its handling. If we don't take the initiative and agressively make our case, without apology, then we get hammered without answer, or are perpetually on the defensive.

I'm not saying "don't worry about the Left," I'm saying we shouldn't let that concern make us timid. Our fear empowers them.

I agree that we have to move back to sanity and decency incrementally. But so few people understand R -v- W, they think a decision by SCOTUS solves the problem. If laws worked, the would be no more murders at all, not just murders of innocent unborns. We have a long way to go, and I know you won't like this, but I'm not totally convinced that W is the man who can get us there. He has disappointed me too many times. I voted for him. I worked to get him elected. But I held my nose the whole time. Maybe disappointed is too strong a word. I voted for him over Gore because I couldn't stand the thought of "Gore" and "President" being used together, but a year before he even announced any interest in running, I knew he was going to be the next POTUS. I started holding my nose then and while working on the Keyes campaign.

Ohhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooooo .. You are Keyes supporter ..

LOL .. just kidding .. nothing against Keyes, he seems like a nice man and I agree with him on some issues .. but IMO he doesn't have what it will takes to run this country as a whole ... sorry .. but that's just my opinion

As for the question on solving the abortion issue .. Can Bush do it all by himself .. of course not because the mind set about abortion amoung a lot of the public is too huge .. but he can get the ball rolling and he has done some things and given the chance with a GOP Congress he can even more

As for my little girls .. I'm only 5'2" .. I don't except to have big kids .. LOL

Just showing a correlation between some temperature readings and CO2 emissions do not prove cause and effect.

Don't tell anyone, but the planet's been getting warmer ever since...

I was born!

Yes, the quote from Section three especially bothers me.

But, I don't see Dubya endorcing it or planning policy changes. Nor do I see the NYT's quotes as they appeared in the document.

I am not happy about it, but as I said before it's allegedly a holdover from the Clinton years. I think he took a little heat over it and now can't wait to but distance between this report and himself.

I have read a number of posts since yesterday and I don't recall one along the lines you claim. please provide some references to support your point of view. we have always had a handfull of folks who claim global warming exists but none that I recall the man is responsible or man can reverse it.

Let me confirm that I've seen a number of them... even today.
