Scientists ponder why kangaroos fart less than sheep Australian scientists are trying to work out why kangaroos don't fart as often as sheep and cattle. Queensland Government scientists are investigating microbes in kangaroos' stomachs.
The Department of Primary Industries researchers want to isolate the bacteria in kangaroos that prevents the production of methane.
ABC News Online says they then plan to see if it can be used to reduce gas emissions from cattle and sheep.
If successful, the move could reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from livestock.
Department of Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk said: "If we can have a breakthrough there, it'll be great news for the environment because at the end of the day it will mean a reduction in the 60 million tonnes of gas emissions that come from our cows and our sheep each year."

Australian Broadcasting Corporation via AnanovaIt truly is amazing how major media continuously aspires to ever lower standards.

Its about time they got around to this problem. Next I want them to find out why the dog who shares my chair with me farts more than the dog at my feet. Altitude?

Sheep have their diets supplimented with hay(lucerne)and their fleece is very thick with retains body heat and causes their stomach contents to ferment quickly.
And New Zealand's males have been noted to have been keeping a very close watch over those facts -- and over sheep farts -- for many scores of years now.
[Which probably goes quite a long way toward explaining why New Zealand's racehorces run so darn fast!]

I sense much mockery of science here on this thread. I can only conclude you people are nothing but a bunch of theocrats who want to impose your holier-than-thou extremist jihad morality on society when science has so much more to offer if you people would get over your prejudices and embrace science!!!

They should be looking at the bacteria in the colon as well since those produce a lot of methane. Cows produce so much methane that a tube inserted in the anus will support a continuously burning flame.
