My fellow Freepers ;
My cousin Darryl, who is 17, and his soon to be wife, Kim, are about to lose their newborn girl, Kaitland Marie. She probably won't see the Sunday sunrise.
Kaitland Marie was born on May 17, and weighed 8pounds 6 ozs. Nothing appeared wrong, but she wouldn't breast feed.
On Tuesday, the 28st, she got sick, and her Dr. sent her to Scottish Rite in Atlanta. She was put in ICU.
Wednesday, her liver shut down. Thursday, her kidneys. The Dr.s then told Darryl and Kim that the baby had no hope of recovery.
Since Thursday, the Hospital staff has revived her 3 times after her heart stopped, against the wishes of everyone involved.
Tonight, the Dr.s have finally said no more cpr, so her time is near to be with the Lord.
Both families involved are involved with churches, and have recieved many prayers and much food.
But, I feel that someone can never use enough prayer. So, I ask for the prayers of all you freepers for the soul of this little girl, and for the families involved.
Although the parents are both young, and they were not married at the time of birth, they waited so that Kim's Father's insurance would pay for the baby. Both kid's are really good kids who really need our prayers.
Lastly, how does everyone feel that the hospital didn't care for the parents wishes not to revive?

In case you missed it, I did ask the question, "Do freepers feel it right that the parents had no say in whether the hospital should revive her, even if they are just prolonging death and suffering?"
Do you not feel that an important societal isue?

"Do freepers feel it right that the parents had no say in whether the hospital should revive her, even if they are just prolonging death and suffering?"They do have a say. Did they request that she not be resuscitated? If so, you should let the doctor or nursing supervisor know that an error has been made. If not, and that is the parents' wish, they should make it known.

I think their may be restrictions on "no coding" a child under laws protecting children with disabilities. If someone could enlighten us, it would be useful.
To: viligantcitizen
VC, Prayers offered for all concerned. This is so sad.

If not, and that is the parents' wish, they should make it known. On Wednesday afternoon, the Dr. informed Darryl that she had zero chance of surviving more than a few days.
On Thursday, after watching his daughter crash and be shocked back to life, Darryl talked it over with the family, and everybody was for asking for a "Do not recusitate" order.
But, the hospital staff informed us that according to Georgia Law, the Dr. has the say on a newborn.
Finally, today the staff said they would not attempt to revive again.

Thanks Jen...
Mercifully, yesterday the Dr.'s said no more attempts at revivng.
She will be with her Great Grandmother and Aunt, soon.

This must really be difficult for all of you. I wonder why, if the doctor had already stated she wouldn't survive, he held off on the order not to resuscitate?

A call for prayers.

"This must really be difficult for all of you. I wonder why, if the doctor had already stated she wouldn't survive, he held off on the order not to resuscitate? Yes, this has made a bad situation, worse.
Even though we have been given a few, precious, extra days. Kaitland has had to suffer. The Lord has made His decision and all the Dr.s were doing was prolonging death. Saturday, they gave a "DNR" order.
I have pondered this point a good bit and ran it by my ex-wife, who worked in a neo-natal ICU for 8 years.
She, like I, had no explanation.

Thanks for the Prayers and the pings.
You are a gentleman of the highest order.

Prayers are being said for the baby and her family. If God chooses not to heal her, He will take her to Himself and she will be in a better place.
