[history]
May 30, 2002 -- Frustrated cops in New York had to free a suspicious gang of illegal Mideast aliens because the INS "didn't want to be bothered" on the Memorial Day weekend, The Post has learned.
In the end, not knowing whether the men they had nabbed were the hard-working immigrants they claimed to be or a terror gang plotting to wreak havoc, the local authorities had to let them walk.

OMG!!!!!!
An INS spokesman said yesterday, "Since Sept. 11, our primary focus has been on terrorist-related investigations and, contrary to belief, we are not in the business of detaining people without cause. These men posed no terrorist threat or, for that matter, any threat to the community."
How the hell did this lazy boob know ....they couldn't be bothered to check it out!!!!!!!!!!

This administration has signaled that there will be no crackdown on illegal aliens. No one is going to get fired for this. Ziglar has already said that it is just to much of a problem to hunt down and deport illegal aliens. Ziggy isn't going to get any flak from Bush because he knows Bush is in bed with the illegals.
It is a lose/lose situation for America!!

This is about our safety, this article ought to be on Dubya's desk this morning, it should be all over the news.
Talk about having clues and being unable to stop 9/11 is one thing, how about NOW! We were on alert for Memorial weekend and this happened. Terrible!!! I am so angry I don't know what to do.

This incident illustrates the thinking our top dogs in the Administration. A number of times, I have heard Cheney and Rumsfeld state that a good offense wiil keep the terrorist at bay. I have also heard both of them say that a further attack is inevitable here. You cannot have it both ways. Which statement do they believe and which is propaganda for public consumption? Not to be ctitical, but have you ever seen a winning team in a sports contest win by abandoning any defense and relying solely on offense to win the game?

This latest INS outrage makes me furious. I spent the last 1/2 hr. sending this article to Congress, WH, INS and DOJ - as well as FoxNews. My question to them all: WHO'S SIDE IS OUR GOVERNMENT ON - AMERICA'S OR TERRORISTS???
It's time for us to bombard the idiots in D.C. with calls, emails, letters, faxes - We're fed up and we're not going to sit by and wait for the next terrorist attack - LET'S ROLL!

Sounds like INS needs more than a housecleaning. I think demotions and terminations are in order. I want an explanation for this from Ziglar and Ashcroft. Period.

I guess it's no good to complain to New York's US Senators...
To: kattracks
Utterly disgusting. If the next terrorist attack on our soil occurs prior to the 2004 election, Bush will not stand a chance, no matter how many times his administration tells us it was inevitable. (While it may be inevitable at some time in the future, that's no excuse for making it easy.)

LOL! I think they're laying it on a little thick this time. I don't believe this one. Then you have had no exposure to the INS.
I've been assisting a legal immigrant with INS matters for the last five years. This is the way they operate, day after day after day. It is not a joke. It's SOP.
There is in fact one telephone number for the Vermont Service Center (which handles the entire northeast United States). It is not a PBX number. It is one telephone.
Perhaps you also don't know that INS Commissioner James Ziglar has been repeatedly stating since 9/11 (in public and in print) that the INS will continue its previous policy of NOT pursuing illegal aliens.
The 320,000 names on the absconder list have still not been added to NCIC, as was promised SIX months ago.

***Bingo*** Move over FBI, the INS house needs to be scoured!
I suggest FReepers send this to everyone on your e-mail list asking everyone to bombard their elected officials with outrage. This CANNOT stand!
To: demkicker
This CANNOT stand! It will stand until local law enforcement stands up and says "enough!", as has happened here.
Most Americans have no understanding whatsoever of the INS or of its insane practices and attitudes.
It is only when local law enforcement begins to describe the stark reality of the INS that Americans will realize it is our fatal vulerability in any attempt to prevent domestic terrorism.
It is Congress, the INS, and the FBI that continue to let this situation fester and grow worse with each passing day.

I question the validity of this article because the Congress voted to split the INS into two agencies. Problem solved.
Right?
(end sarcasm)

I'm sorry to say but the buck stops at Bush!
He is responsible to enforce the law, yet he chooses otherwise to get the Hispanic vote.
The I.N.S. sucks; but, it is Bush who undermining our Country, Values, and our Lives by not enforcing the Law!

An INS spokesman said yesterday, "...we are not in the business of detaining people without cause. Uh, am I missing something here? Isn't the fact that they're illegal cause enough?
