BtD - US Navy 1970-1980, Vietnam.

BtD's Dad - joined U.S. (horse) Cavalry 1937 (106th Illinois), WWII, Korea, joined as a buck private and retired a full Colonel in 1970. A full life. Told his kid not to be a grunt.

BtD's GrandDad - U.S. Army Air Corps, 1917. Had to be nuts. Told his kid not to be an aviator (Dad did anyhow).

Thank you, Mm7, for the "Roll Call"...I'm amazed and inspired by the posts here!

I should know more than I do about my families, but I do know that my mother-in-law and father-in-law were both in the Army in the 40's; in the 50's, my dad was in the Navy and his older brother in the Marines; my brother-in-law on Mr. 88's side is a Viet Nam vet (airborne) and two nephews (also on his side) were Army in the 90's; the youngest just re-enlisted and is doing some kind of "special training" (?)...

A heart-felt THANK YOU to ALL who defend and preserve the "land of the free, and the home of the brave", whether in past, present, or future service...may God bless and keep you and your families.

Of all the services, the Navy has the most opportunities and the best schools. Navy opportunites range from basic seamanship skills to nuclear power training. The Navy's mission is in the air, on land, above and below the sea. The experience and character building that world travel teaches is invaluable.
