Finally, it has been shown that women have better hand/eye coordination which is the reason they usually make excellent pilots, especially helicopter pilots due to the multiplicity of tasks they must perform simultaneously.

Please explain why the five women in the CWP class I went through, at the range, failed to pass and failed to get their CWP? I watched several of them shoot, and they were awful. One was shooting so high, some of the bullets may have gone over the embankment and into a neighborhood.

If you'll review the previous paragraphs of that post, you'll see that I qualified my statements with listening to and applying the techniques I impart to each student. Now, this could be a simple case of mental headspace and timing (student brainlock), or it could have been the instructor (not all are created equal) or it could be a lack of motivation on the part of everybody involved, student and instructor alike! But I would submit to you that five is an inadequate sample to prove an assertion that women are incapable of becoming skilled shots...and there are an awful lot of very capable women in this area who would quite rightfully start screaming for your head in a noose if you choose to go there. You're not going there are you?

I also find that when I teach a novice married couple where both have equal (none) familiarity with firearms, the wife turns into the more competent shooter by far almost 85% of the time.

This is usually because the guys are only half listening and thus only half applying the lessons because usually most guys think that by simple virtue of the fact that they are male makes them an expert in three areas: WOMEN, CARS AND GUNS.

Well, my Marine Corps gunsmithing instructor, who served two tours in Vietnam and killed any number of ah... Vietnamese himself in close combat, would beg to differ with you.

He said that women are naturally better shots than men, and that on one patrol he had come up against a unit of Viet Cong women and that it was the most eerie combat experience he had ever had, because with nearly every report of an enemy weapon, a Marine would fall.

His opinion was that women's nervous systems are just basically different, and less prone to agitation and nervous jitter than men's... none of which explains why women still can't match men's scores in the shooting sports, but...

RE: Post #22

I never said my observations were a scientific sample. They were observations of the CWP class of 40 which I went through. There were two men which didn't pass either. One had a .22 caliber pistol made at the end of the 19th century and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in the 20th century. His gun was deemed not safe and was disqualified. The other guy I'll characterize as effeminate and obviously had not had enough range time with his new 9mm. It's obvious the women had not had good instruction and range time, either. But to balance the issue, there were probalbly men there who did not have instruction or range time, yet they pasted.

I am all for women learning how to shoot and defend themselves. But from what I have observed, most women don't want anything to do with firearms. Some have told me they would rather be a victim than to have to shoot someone in self defense!

I don't doubt there are women who shoot well. There are some women who can bench press 200 lbs. plus. But they are not the rule. IMO, there are not more good women shooters because they watch too much TV and get 'indoctrinated' into the anti-gun mind set.

In the area of LE, I have read that women 'officers' pull their guns up to nine times as many times as their male counterpart. Is this desirable behavior and response on the part of the women officers?

You two are discussing apples and oranges. One class is composed of people who want to learn how to shoot and shoot well. The Concealed Class is there to teach people the laws and to see if the people there are qualified to carry a concealed weapon. ExSoldier was discussing the abilities of women who made up their minds that they wanted to be good at the shooting sports. CWRWinger is discussing women who are going through a class on the law and sending them out to the range to see if they qualify.

I believe that the big difference of the women who do well in the shooting sports are those that never let the notion that they can't do something stop them. So why should they get rattled when something goes wrong? They already have the mindset that they are going to succeed at what they are doing.

If we give up and say, "Our hands are tied,"

Our government already has. Witness last week when the statement came out that there was nothing they could do to stop terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
