Memorial Day Weekend Email-a-Thon - Thread I
A FR Forum Event ^ | 05/25/2002 | DoughtyOne

Posted on 05/25/2002 9:34:58 AM PDT by DoughtyOne

Throughout our nation's history good men have fought and died to preserve this nation and it's ideals.  From our founding fathers to today's armed forces, many sacrifices have been made on our behalf.

On Memorial Day weekend it is only fitting that we should take some time to say thank you to those who are preserving our freedoms today, and to remember those who have paid the ultimate price in the past.

At this time I would like to ask you to join us, as we institute our first Email-a-Thon.

Make a pledge here so we'll know how many emails are going out, then click on the provided links and send the emails.

It's another Memorial Day weekend and most of us are looking forward to good times with family and friends.  But some of our fellow countrymen don't have it so good this year.  Once again we have armed forces under fire in foreign lands.

On behalf of VetsCor, A_Navy_Vet has been asking that we take time this weekend to participate in efforts to thank those who have lost loved ones, and express our appreciation for those who are currently serving in our armed forces.  On the USO Canteen threads, Snow Bunny has been providing email links for some time that facilitate the emailing of our service members. This weekend, let's throw our full support behind

their efforts.

This is the first annual Memorial Day Weekend Email-a-Thon.  It won't take that long to click on the links I've provided, and send out some emails. And when all is said and done, thousands of our countrymen will know that folks at home care about them and appreciate what they are doing.

The goal is to see if we can send over 10,000 emails to our fellow countrymen.  I think that's an easy goal if we all chip in.

How many will you agree to send? Can you send 100 or more?  Why not take on this task and help us blow by that 10,000 number.

It'd be great if we could make sure every member of our armed forces overseas, recieved a note of thanks.

A_Navy_vet and Snow Bunny deserve our support, and this weekend is a great time to chip in and help.

If your chapter would like to sponsor this activity, please let me know and I'll add your name to the list.

Thanks to Snow Bunny, A Navy Vet and 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub for their tireless support of our military.

Thanks in advance, to those of you who decide to pitch in.

Fellow forum members:

About an hour and one half ago, I went to the first link on my list at the header of this thread.  There I composed a letter and mailed it off.

Rather than compose a letter to each individual member of the military, since I didn't even know who would be recieving it, I composed an all purpose letter describing what type of effort initiated it, and my own appreciation and wishes for their well being.  Then I mailed off 100 copies to each branch of service.

In all I sent out five hundred copies of the following letter.  In a few moments I'll be composing another.  Again, I will send out multiple copies to each branch of the military.  This time I'll send out 250 copies to each branch.  When completed, this will total seventeen hundred and fifty letters transmitted.  If possible I'll do another twelve hundred and fifty tomorrow morning bringing my total to three thousand letters.

At the Dear Abby site, you can click on the send button, then hit the back arrow.  Once back, you can send your letter again.  Repeating this process you can send out a large number of repeats within a short period of time.  Since the letters are going out to random individuals, many will recieve your letter all over the armed services.

Rather than send out only one version, that many would recieve and compare, I am sending out multiple versions that will look different when compared.  Some from the same unit may recieve duplicates, but a third or fourth person may have copies of another version.

Hey, it's not perfect, but it's a way to make sure as many members of our military as possible receive a note of appreciation for what they are doing for our nation.

I have included mention of FreeRepublic, because I want them to know that in FreeRepublic, they have a steadfast friend.

My first note:

Hi there;

This Memorial Day weekend I am participating in a group effort to send as many emails as possible to the members of our military.  Those of us who are participating wish to convey to you and our other service members our appreciation and thanks for your service.

During this weekend we reflect back on the sacrifices of our military members that have insured our nation's creation and survival.  As we reflect on those who have gone before you, we wish to recognize your service as well.

Thank you for your service to our nation.  May God watch over you and bless you.

Members of www.freerepublic.com will be sending out over 10,000 of these emails this weekend.  We want you folks to know that people at home do care and think about you often.

It is with a great sense of indebtedness and respect that I write this note.  All the best to you.

Cordially;

Ron Doughty

Many members of FreeRepublic are off having fun this weekend, away from the forum.  Therefore the pleasure of contacting our troops is going to be ours.

Thanks to each of you who have participated.

Now THAT'S the way to send emails. Thanks for the idea.

So add 100 to the tally!! I'll send more soon.
