Throughout our nation's history good men have fought and died to preserve this nation and it's ideals. From our founding fathers to today's armed forces, many sacrifices have been made on our behalf. On Memorial Day weekend it is only fitting that we should take some time to say thank you to those who are preserving our freedoms today, and to remember those who have paid the ultimate price in the past. At this time I would like to ask you to join us, as we institute our first Email-a-Thon. Make a pledge here so we'll know how many emails are going out, then click on the provided links and send the emails.

It's another Memorial Day weekend and most of us are looking forward to good times with family and friends. But some of our fellow countrymen don't have it so good this year. Once again we have armed forces under fire in foreign lands. On behalf of VetsCor, A_Navy_Vet has been asking that we take time this weekend to participate in efforts to thank those who have lost loved ones, and express our appreciation for those who are currently serving in our armed forces. On the USO Canteen threads, Snow Bunny has been providing email links for some time that facilitate the emailing of our service members. This weekend, let's throw our full support behind

their efforts. This is the first annual Memorial Day Weekend Email-a-Thon. It won't take that long to click on the links I've provided, and send out some emails. And when all is said and done, thousands of our countrymen will know that folks at home care about them and appreciate what they are doing. The goal is to see if we can send over 10,000 emails to our fellow countrymen. I think that's an easy goal if we all chip in. How many will you agree to send? Can you send 100 or more? Why not take on this task and help us blow by that 10,000 number.

It'd be great if we could make sure every member of our armed forces overseas, recieved a note of thanks. A_Navy_vet and Snow Bunny deserve our support, and this weekend is a great time to chip in and help. If your chapter would like to sponsor this activity, please let me know and I'll add your name to the list. Thanks to Snow Bunny, A Navy Vet and 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub for their tireless support of our military. Thanks in advance, to those of you who decide to pitch in.

Well, I've been to all the linked sites (several at the USO Canteen webpage also) and sent emails (25 so far). That's all I can do right now. Will be back later tonight to do some more emailing.

I have two quick questions for anyone, please, before I personally embark on sending at least fifty between today, tomorrow, and Monday.
Is each one randomly distributed throughout a particular branch of the service or does it all go to one unit?
More importantly......is it good or bad form to let the recipient know that I am a well respected, highly thought of, much loved, serious minded intellectual, member of Free Republic............
..........or should I just leave out the Free Republic part?
To: Focault's Pendulum
E-mails are distributed to different military personnell.
I'm "guessing" some sort of random rotation is set up per military branch.
By all means mention Free Republic in your e-mails.
There are many active duty lurkers that visit the USO Canteen daily.
Just tell them to go to the front page of Free Republic and click on the USO Canteen link.
Thank You for your support for our military.

Thanks for the answer. I'm going to go to anyservicemember.org and try to get as many out to the Coast Guard as possible. The owner of my company is the National President of The Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association.
He was there in WWII at D Day and has given me permission to tell some of his story. He was with Rescue Flotilla One.....and I hope some of the things he can pass on through me will help the current acive service members know.....that they are not the foregotten service.

Started my morning with an e-mail to a serviceman. My family just finished watching "Behind Enemy Lines". I think I can guarantee that my daughter and her friends will burn up the keyboard tonight. Put me down for 50 throughout the course of the weekend.
To: DoughtyOne
I've sent 25 so far today.
