I wish the NEA would cease to exist but I have my doubts. I think they will only become a much larger group than what they already are. Afterall, many of our future teachers are currently being educated in these institutions. With that in mind, I can only imagine what the agenda/curriculum of public schools will be like in a few short years.

Yes, it is great. But now we need the complacent Christian teachers to stand up and be counted.

We had a similiar ruling in Michigan a few years back. The victorious teachers were soon disappointed when few 'Christian' teachers followed the path that was now open.

I can't help but wonder how far we'd get with this argument concerning most all taxation....hmmm...tax funding public schools where the money goes to pay the teachers which in turn pay union dues that are used to fund democrap policies that we consider subversive or perverted (like the GLSEN and NAMBLA agendas). For that matter, why couldn't this same logic be used against using tax dollars to fund everything else that goes against our seriously held personal convictions and beliefs? I'm not trying to be a smart-alek here, I'm perfectly serious.

Reading different accounts of the same story can be an interesting exercise, particularly when the subject of spin is being examined:

I like seeing how one report (the AP) sticks to the idea that this story is just another example of bland bureaucratic bungling, a "nothing to see here, move along" kind of vibe. The Fox News version calls the NEA "slapped with a warning" and plays much more on the religious intolerance aspects. Of course it's always lovely when a liberal bastion like the EEOC comes out in support of religious rights (as opposed to, say, only those of women claiming sexual harrassment over "that's a great dress" or someone claiming they don't feel comfortable praying to allah in the coffee break room).

I'm not saying one is definately spin, or right or wrong, it's just interesting to see differences. Of course it's good news and the NEA is nearly criminal in general.

Ok so if you disagree on religious grounds now you do not have to give them dues money. That’s fine and all but, what about those teachers who do not teach certain things for the same moral objections. Will these teachers be hassled because they will not teach the homosexual or other agendas? Since the NEA seems to dictate what is taught then will they be reprimanding these teachers who refuse to teach lies and immoral activities? Will these same teachers be allowed to teach against these issues if they feel so compelled?

This sounds like a slippery slope to me. I don't want teachers deciding for themselves what to teach to my kids. I want to decide (along with the members of my local community), then have them teach it. It should'nt be about the teachers personal agenda or beliefs, even if it's an agenda that I agree with. They are civil employees paid with tax dollars, and are therefore not entitled to any opinion in the matter. It should be about local control by the people who pay for it, specifically the parents.

This is exactly why more and more teachers are non-affiliated with the NEA and are only affiliated with their state associations. In my state(my wife is a teacher) there are far more teachers who are not affiliated with them than are.

I agree with you except, just because you are a civil employee does not mean you lose ANY rights as a citizen. Political or otherwise.
