There is no evidence he will be filing such charges

If they were denied access which I doubt then their should be corrective action. However, if they do "to follow the investigative trail, the evidence wherever it goes without regard to politics and without regard to whose, if anyone's, ox is being gored," he said.

Then I expect it will lead them to some of the kinds of things we Freepers believed happened.

I doubt this Florida thing has traction. The bottom line: Even if Gore won the election (which he didn't), most people are glad Bush is President.

"motor voter" registration violations

I thought all the motor voter problems affected republicans. For example, they would go to vote and not be on the rolls. Also a lot of immigrants (non citizens)registered this way.

I'm hoping the Justice dept will at least throw us a bone and investigate some vote fraud but if they aren't investigating/suing Philly and Houston for their obscene (105 - 125% voter turn out)they're only doing the Dem's bidding.

Among average folks, no, but it will have some with two groups:

1. The "black leadership" that's claimed disenfranchisement.
2. So-called "progressives" who never admitted Bush won the election.

That's going to have an effect in Missouri, Georgia, and Oregon. The first two states have pretty high concentrations of black voters. The third will have a lot of so-called "progressives".

Getting the Senate back is now a toss-up at best.

"I'm waiting for someone to say this is just another brilliant political move. "

Darn straight it is !

It will expose all the crap the DNC pulled during 2000 while at the same time showing the Bush admin is for civil rights etc. taking the issue away from the dems.

It's a win - win !

What Edwards is saying is: We got to make sure that the democrats win this time, [or successful in stealing it]

What Boyd is saying is pure unalderated bs.

My question is: Why is ashcroft allowing this?

I sure hope you're right but I don't trust the Justice Dept. But maybe, like "Bush knew", it will blow up in their faces.

If the press reports were correct 50% of the black republican votes were thrown out by Dem voting boards. The spanish speaking cubans weren't helped in Miami and even got strong armed in to voting for Gore. If anyone doesn't think this is good you need to think it through and maybe you'll see it as a smart move !

I recall a couple of studies about that, and some rumors about Haitian immigrants who were also bullied into voting for Gore...

The problem is how it will be spun. I've got a bad feeling about this...

I had long thought people being taking the test for US citizenship were required to be able to read or speak some English....

That's only if you want to be a citizen. Apparently you don't have to be a citizen to vote. At least in some locations.

The $64,000 question of the day! Ashcroft lost to a dead guy because of vote fraud for Pete's sake.

Carl Cameron said this started when Clinton was still president. Maybe politically Ashcroft couldn't say no.

That is my take on it as well. Testimony will be on the record, and it takes the issue off the table. Plus it shuts Ms. Berry up.

I think people are forgetting about all those things that you pointed out. Haitians were forced to vote dem by strong-arms, if I remember correctly. Lots of stuff to come out, and most of it won't be helpful to the Rats.

TWO OTHER LAWSUITS also will be filed, in Missouri and Tennessee, by the department’s civil rights division, Assistant Attorney General Ralph Boyd told the Senate Judiciary Committee. The lawsuits will allege disparate treatment of minority voters, improper purging of voter rolls, “motor voter” registration violations and failure to provide access to disabled voters, Boyd said. Other charges, he said, include failing to allow voters with limited proficiency in English to have assistance at the polls and failing to provide bilingual assistance.

The above is what the suit alleges happened. This is what will be tried in court.
Where do you see anything that deals with things that the democrats did?

The Dems have overstated their hand again, if they are the one pushing this lawsuit. There are many that watch what is going on and are thankful everytime they see Gore/Leiberman on the tube that they are not the Commander in Chief.

You have to hand it to the creep. He knows how to screw his enemies. You can bet that this was started as a way to get Bush, fire up the black vote for the Dems, and to give Terry McAwful a rallying cry.

I think we can kiss re-gaining the Senate good-bye.

Motor voter violations. How many illegal voters from motor votor are Republicans, do you think? The disability thing is a non-issue. I would also point out to you that minority voters might be the Haitians or Cubans. LOL!

What about Winsconsin, New York and Oregon? What about our disenfranchised military voters? Do we, the American voter, not violate the civil liberties set for us in the Constitution by voting more than once? Voting after we're dead? Allowing our pets to vote?

Calling him a drunk didn't work. Calling him stupid didn't work. Enron didn't work. "What did he know and when did he know it (before 9-11)" didn't work.

This must be the next left-wing attempt to manufacture a "scandal".

You are 100% correct. This suit may be a backdoor way of reafirming that. Why should bilingual assistance be provided if the voter already speaks English?
