George Lucas, sometimes accused of reinforcing racial stereotypes with his movies, has done it again according to critics.

Latino critics in particular charge his latest Star Wars epic toys with American paranoia about Mexican immigration with its cloned army of swarthy lookalikes who march lockstep by the tens of thousands, and ultimately end up serving as Darth Vaders white suited warriors.

Correct -the movie put a strong emphasis on the fact that they are Sioux.

You know, I caught that, but forgot to put it in. I liked The Fifth Element, and thought that the traffice scenes were some of the best work in the movie. You're right though, it's a direct rip-off, right down to the way the speeder looks like the cab in a lot of ways.

No wonder the Emporer took over if Jar-Jar was a representative!

Perhaps that is what Lucas intended.

I fully enjoyed the movie, but I gotta say, I cringed and my gag reflex triggered when Jar Jar came into scene.

Some people have a lot of time on their hands.

ISTR a similar dust-up over the previous "Star Wars" installment, something about the movie being "anti-Semitic" because one of the space monsters supposedly had a "Yiddish accent." I listed to the alleged offensive sound clip and it sounded more Sicilian to me.

But doesn't it do your heart good to know that Jar Jar is the ultimate evil in the universe, the power behind the throne, the one who made all of the Imperial madness possible?

The reason the Leftists don't like it is because the plot-line is all a corrupt government leader scheming behind the scenes to assume dictatorial power, while giving a superficial appearance of being this benign figure.

Sort of Clintonesque.

Temuera Morrison

He sure looks like a rugby player to me. I wonder what will happen when they find out that the NZ national rugby team is called the All Blacks.

That was so obviously a Lucas inside joke that Jar Jar made the Emporer possible.

How unsurprising of the neo-cons.

How unsurprising of the filthy Patsies to interfere even in a discussion of a movie. Your boy got .8% of the vote, people support Israel far more than they would the Palis. You're politically dead, learn to lie down.

It's far better that he commits suicide. That makes the entire series worthwhile. I will pay real money to see Jar Jar off himself.

Hey! You guys (UK) got to see it the same time we (US) did for this movie. Suicide would not be Lucas' style, but I think murdered by the Emperor would be almost as rewarding.

I think you beat us a bit - you had midnight showings in America. Anthony Daniels told the audience I was in that we were the very first audience in the UK, which was at 10:20 in the morning in London.

But yes, pretty much the same time. I hope it's the same for Episode III.

How ironically delicious! It couldn't happen to a bigger Left-Coast, PC liberal. True or not about his intentions, perception is reality and Lucas being castigated by the liberal PC crowd has made my year!

We won't quibble over time zones! Besides, you had Anthony Daniels. I saw a 10am showing in Pittsburgh. Midnight tickets were hard to get.

Besides, we have nothing! Not even digital projection! Bloody* Cleveland has digital projection!!!!!

*Sometimes I prefer British cursing. It isn't quite the full cursing, but doesn't sound like you're chickening out!

Kamino--soundalike for the Spanish word 'camino' which means 'road' or 'I walk.'

So it sounds like a Spanish word. Is that offensive?

If it sounded like an English word, would it be considered offensive? French? Chinese? Russian? Turkish? Burmese? Bantu?

Is it possible to invent a name that doesn't sound like a word in some language? If yes, how much does it cost to verify?
