Remembering Pollard |
|
The Committee to Bring Jonathan Home has announced another Torah lecture - the 5th in a series - in honor of Jonathan Pollard. The class will be delivered by Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh on May 15 at 8:15 PM at the Yeshurun Synagogue in central Jerusalem. Jonathan Pollard is now in his 17th year of a prison sentence in the U.S. for spying for Israel - a crime that carries an average punishment of 2-4 years. Yehoshua Steinberg of the Committee to Bring Jonathan Home recently explained, "It may seem strange to continue with the struggle for a single individual at a time of such national agony. In truth, quite the opposite is true. [Jonathan's wife] Esther was exactly on the mark [when she said that] Klal Yisrael's tragedies precisely mirror Jonathan's suffering." The reference was to the following comment by Esther Pollard: "One of the reasons that Israel is experiencing such anguish in so many areas - and I believe this with all my heart - is that successive administrations in Israel have been permitted to abandon individual Jews. The minute the nation allows the government to abandon even one Jew, every Jew is at risk..." Other speakers in this series have included Rabbis Mordechai Eliyahu, Moti Elon, Yosef Mendelevitch, and Mordechai Noigershall. |
I sure hope not. I'm not anti-Israel, I'm anti-the Free Jonathan Pollard Lobby. There IS a difference, you know.
That his treason involved Israel in no way excuses his treason. He is dishonorable and deserves no furthor thought. He should have been executed.Any Israeli support at this point is counter-productive and must be attributed to elements in that country who are detrimental to continued diplomatic relations.
His treason was against the USA.His punishment is light, IMHO.
Sure as hell NOT the "Rudy Giuliani" kind...
There is no "average 2-4 year" punishment for a traitor.Get real.Only former POTUS can expect that kind of slap on the wrist.(apparantly)That he was not executed is still inexcusable to many people. He knew the laws.He violated them to the detrimate of his sworn oath. What he did was not a technical violation, it was treason. He should have fried. That is the penalty for his crimes. How he got off with life still makes me ill.Israel, dont push it.His crimes will never be excused. The USA is an ally.Friends have boundaries that do not get crossed.Chalk it up to a learning experience and leave it at that.
Which ones? The Walkers caught in 1985 or the one caputured in Afghanistan last year?
Dear Ghost,
Let me be perfectly clear. ALL SPIES who are convicted of spying AGAINST America should either get life imprisonment or the death penalty.
This is certainly not true as stated.
Most importantly, such view and statements do no good and hurt greatly.
Even these Israeli rabbis --- I would not go to them fo radvice on life issues.
Most importantly, besides having no moral standing to try to free Pollard, these people hurt the American Jewish community.
Lucidity bump....I know guys doing more time than Pollard for smuggling copious amounts of pot..boo-hoo
Which is just one more example of why Rudy should never be elected to any public office in the US again. None the less,I am predicting that Bubba-2 will pick this idiot for his running mate in 2004.
Your definition of a "Islan-Firster" is anybody who isn't a "Israel-Firster",isn't it?
All three of them.
