WASHINGTON –– More than a half-dozen pipe bombs were placed in rural mailboxes in Illinois and Iowa on Friday, and at least two people were injured in explosions, the post office said.

None of the injuries was life threatening, postal vice president Azeezaly Jaffer said.

The pipe bombs were attached to batteries, he said, and he urged people in the area to call authorities if they find a pipe and battery inside their mailboxes.

Jaffer said the bombs were accompanied by a note threatening the government.

The first incident occurred about 11 a.m. when a rural letter carrier delivering mail near Mt. Carol, Ill., opened a mailbox and an explosion occurred, Jaffer said.

Other incidents occurred in Morrison, Ill.; Asbury, Iowa; Tipton, Iowa, and Elizabeth, Ill., he said.

Jaffer said the bombs were not sent through the mail but had been placed in the mailboxes.

He said the bombs appeared to be triggered by being touched or moved.

An Illinois postal worker was treated at Morrison Community Hospital for injuries to her eyes, shoulder and thumb, hospital officials said. She was expected to be released.

Can anybody ascertain whether one person could have done all of this, like how far away are these locations?

Azeezaly Jaffer

THIS HAS NOTHING MUCH TO DO WITH THE ARTICLE BUT!

Just curious how many foriegners hold prominant places in our everyday life seems like alot of foreign names are popping up lately maybe im just paranoid but if these people are foreigners holding places of prominance and importance how do we know they can be trusted?

KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

Surely if they started placing them around say 5pm? On a good day I would say that would give them at least 17 hours or so to place all these bombs before mail came by in the morning.

By the way.. how can they know a note was attached with it? Wouldn't it blow up as well? Did he tape it to the outside of the mailbox? Less one failed and it was wrapped around the bomb but still.. who's dumb enough to tape a letter to a bomb?

Another Unibomber?

Or maybe some schmuck with a chip on his shoulder, from the ATF/Waco/FBI/Ruby Ridge crowd. Or maybe a jihadi. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I am always mystified by the comment that essentially, don't worry, nobody died. Yes their right hand, arm, shoulder and face are gone, but they're going to pull through.

The same comments are made about our soldiers all the time. A helicopter fell 50 feet to impact the earth very hard, but nobody died. Fifteen of them will never walk again, but don't worry about it.

Oh well...

These are the types of terrorism I expect to see a lot of in upcoming months and years. We have seeded our nation with the people who will carry these acts out. It's only a matter of time.

When the elite in our nation find that they are targeted because of their wealth and corporate affiliations, the whoa is me screams are going to be very interesting to watch.

I've been trying to state that we were making some grave mistakes regarding immigration. Nobody gave a damn. Unfortunately, I think that's going to change.

Totally mystified:

and he urged people in the area to call authorities if they find a pipe and battery inside their mailboxes.

Normally, when I find a pipe and a battery in my mailbox, I just ignore them.

I'm with you. I'm not reaching into anything with a pipe there that shouldn't be. These folks are lucky to be alive. For all I know, the door of the mail boxes were rigged too. I'm not sure yet.

It may change, but it won't have an impact on ELF or other domestic terrorist groups who march under the 'antiglobalist' or 'environmentalist' or 'animal rights' banners.

I agree with that. But I don't our home grown have the domestic will to commit violence that foreign nationals would harbor. Blowing up your fellow citizens doesn't appeal to a large segment of our society. (I would hope.)

(05-03) 15:11 PDT (AP) --

Text of note left in mailboxes in the Midwest where pipe bombs were found Friday:

Mailboxes are exploding! Why, you ask?

Attention people.

You do things because you can and want (desire) to

If the government controls what you want to do, they control what you can do.

If you are under the impression that death exists, and you fear it, you do anything to avoid it. (This is the same way pain operates. Naturally we strive to avoid negative emotion/pain.)

You allow yourself to fear death!

World authorities allowed, and still allow you to fear death!

In avoiding death you are forced to conform, if you fail to conform, you suffer mentally and physically. (Are world powers utilizing the natural survival instinct in a way that allows them to capitalize on the people?)

To "live" (avoid death) in this society you are forced to conform/slave away.

I'm here to help you realize/ understand that you will live no matter what! It is up to you people to open your hearts and minds. There is no such thing as death. The people I've dismissed from this reality are not at all dead.

Conforming to the boundaries, and restrictions imposed by the government only reduces the substance in your lives. When 1% of the nation controls 99% of the nations total wealth, is it a wonder why there are control problems?

The United States strives to provide freedom for their people. Do we really have personal freedom? I've lived here for many years, and I see much limitation. Does the definition of freedom include limitation? I've learned about the history of various civilizations in history, and I see more and more limitation. Do you people enjoy this trend of limitation? If not, change it!

As long as you are uninformed about death you will continue to say "how high", when the government tells you to "jump". As long as the government is uninformed about death they will continue tell you to "jump" Is the government uninformed about death, or are they pretending?

You have been missing how things are, for very long. I'm obtaining your attention in the only way I can. More info is on its way. More "attention getters' are on the way. If I could, I would change only one person, unfortunately the resources are not accessible. It seems killing a single famous person would get the same media attention as killing numerous un-famous humans. There is less risk of being detained, associated with dismissing certain people.

Sincerely,

Someone Who Cares

PS. More info. will be delivered to various locations around the country.

Ya beat me to the post!

BUMP anyway...it needed to be posted. I hope the drooling conspiracy nuts join in this thread, because THESE constitute acts of terrorism. And destruction of federl property, assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief...

Prayers for the injured postal workers. Also praying the president of the US Post office fires that idiot Azeezaly Jaffer for advising locals to "call authorities if they find a pipe and battery inside their mailboxes."

DUH...by the time they open the door and find it, the bomb would most likely have exploded.

My advice to locals: watch your mailbox. Shoot anyone you catch sticking a pipe and a battery into it. Bury them in your back yard. **I'M KIDDING**!!!

LOL! For a minute there I didn't see the top of your post and I was thinking, "RCW2001 has finally gone nuts!" I'm glad I looked at the top of your post! LOL!

But seriously, I'm willing to bet this is some local nutjob, or a small group of local nutjobs. Whoever planted these bombs are not terrorists "of global reach". Homegrown nuts, I betcha!
