GOP leader: Palestinians should move to unsettled Arab lands
Jerusalem Post ^ | May 2, 2002 | The Jerusalem Post Internet Staff

Posted on 05/02/2002 10:32:01 AM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

The US Congress will vote today on a proposal to recognize the West Bank as sovereign territory belonging to the State of Israel.

Rep. Richard Armey, the Republican Congressional leader, said the Palestinians should build their national home within a neighboring Arab country.

Armey noted Arab nations have large tracts of unsettled territory where the Palestinians could build a nation.

In Armey's opinion, there is no reason for Israel to hand territory over to the Palestinians in exchange for peace.

The White House is urging Congress at this time to dramatically tone down the proposal's language, Israel Radio reported.

Michael Medved had Buchanan cornered. He had to fall back on the "Israel Firsters" lament. Medved had him from the beginning, just based on cultural commonalities, but he didn't follow it up.

Buchanan is a has-been.

San Francisco already has Night-Of-The-Living-Dead homeless degenerates here (in SF).

I remember standing on Market Street in the Financial District, in suit and tie, when some homeless dude pulled a Wendy's cup out of the trash can and urinated in it right there on the sidewalk. But if it had been Ann Coulter speaking her mind, she would have been shouted down the Peninsula. That's a liberal's idea of freedom for you.

I usually respect what Dick Armey has to say, but this bit of silly posturing is the sort of thing which will haunt us--i.e.Conservative Republicans--for years to come. It is also tantamount to pouring gasoline on a forest fire.

What on earth was he thinking!

Here' a rational question: just because there's one million angry Muslims, how does that entitle them to be appeased ?

Maybe there really is a clash of civilizations. If so, the message that should be delivered to the muslim world is "Don't tread on Me."

And the message should be backed up with muscle.

That is so true. The only reporter I heard that do an expose on this was Geraldo who noted that if you look at the laws of the neighboring countries you find out that arab countries treat Palestinians lower than cow droppings and, get this, the country that gives them the most rights is - you guessed it, Isreal.

I watched Dick Armey on Chris No Balls say this last night. The look on Matthews face was priceless!! Armey literally de-balled Matthews last night and every word he said is true. THERE IS NO PALESTINE. The land was divided up by England and Isreal is Isreal including the Westbank. The reason there are Arab refugees is because Jordan kicked them all out including Arafat!! They have been proclaiming this palestinian crap ever since and a lot of people have sure bought into the lie. Especially the Europeans and sadly the Eastern part of this country (liberal terrirtory), and the US leftists!! For once let the Arabs take care of their own. But even in their own countries, the people are not free or taken care of. This crap is nothing but a ruse and always has been.

I can't believe Matt Drudge had Buchanan on last week, showing such admiration for him. Buchanan could not come up with any logical reason why Sharon shouldn't be allowed to walk on the holy Temple Mount any time he wants without starting an intifada.

I like what you said 2cents and on top it - everything the Arabs touch becomes barren, everything that Isreal touches becomes lush and productive. Hmmm - blessing maybe. God's blessing.

You nut cases need to tone down the rhetoric a couple of notches.

In this forum, we do raise our voices more than would be appropriate if, say, we were all U.S. ambassadors abroad, or for that matter, the President. So what? I would object to having pro-Israel folks called "nut cases," but, as I said, we're not working for the State Department (or if any of us are, we're not here in an official capacity).

. . . can we go back to rational negotiations to calm that mess down a bit?

Diplomatic negotiations can only work when both sides are pretty close to agreement from the start. (I got that idea from something Kissinger wrote--forget what.) Perhaps separate negotiations on something like the Golan Heights, where Syrian and Israeli positions are fairly close, makes sense. But negotiations that create a process which is supposed to lead to a utopian end to all Arab-Israeli conflict will not work; their failure, as with the Oslo process, will just inflame the situation more. If what I am saying here is at odds with administration policy, I sure hope they know what fire they are playing with. But avoidance of overbroad negotiations may be consistent Bush's longer term plans.

Going back in history, there have been periods when all non-believers were welcomed up there by Muslims proud to show off the beauties of their holy places. At other times, any Christian or Jew showing his face on top of the Holy Sanctuary/Temple Mount was subject to violence. Islam can be a religion of peace, but the reaction to Sharon's visit shows which type of Islam, at least in Palestine, is now ascendent.

That's an interesting point, Steve, but I don't know what you mean by "their holy places." The muslims built their junky mosques on top of the Temple Mount in an effort to erase Jewish history and dominate the world.

I suppose it will end up being a country of WASPS.

NO. It will end up being a country of tribal Native American "Indians". i.e., Shawnee, Cherokee, Lakota, Chocktaw, etc. etc.

So let's send all the African Americans to a country in Africa, since that's where they originally came from and while we are at it, send all the people of Jewish heratege to Israel, Chinese to China, Koreans to Korea etc

Wow, that's one of the biggest straw men I've seen in a long time.

Next time, try addressing what the person was *actually* talking about instead of ridiculing a distorted parody of his position. Then you might have an actual point.

Hint: African Americans aren't trying to destroy America, and kill whites with bombs and terrorism, in their desire to form a "black state". African nations aren't supporting them in such a crusade and expecting America to surrender some of its land to create a "black state".

If they *were*, then it would *indeed* be appropriate to ask the African nations why they don't donate some of their *own* territory if they're actually in favor of such a state, *and* to ask the African-American militants why they don't go there instead of trying to kill *us* for it.

Are we clear now?

"There are one billion angry muslims on this planet..."

Somehow this sentence struck me as inadvertantly humorous.

I'm picturing a swarm of stinging insects, angry stinging insects, oblivious to the presence of a rolled-up newspaper. LOL!

You stupid Arabs pissed in the punch bowl...now drink up!

Anybody got a link to the map of the Middle East that so clearly shows the breakdown of Israel vs. the Arabs? There was a thread on here about it a while back but I can't find it.

Thanks in advance.

This is all well and good as far as you and they are concerned, but why does the United States have to pay for this conquest with our tax dollars?

The 3 billion/year that Israel gets is part of the settlement that was negotiated to give the Sinai to Egypt after the '67 war.

I think you are absolutely right. Israel takes back the Sinai, its oil and other resources and America can keep the 3 billion.

Show me an other example in history, apart from Israel, where a country has gone to war five times to defend itself, won every war, and was then expected to give back all of the land it has taken during those wars.

Yugoslavia had quite a few wars, in the last 20 years, but their leaders aree now being charged as War crininals. Maybe this is a Omen ?
