Ping me on this too. I'm not as well stocked with rifles as I am handguns (nor as proficient) but I might like to try this. I have a Ruger 10-22. My military rifles are old and not very accurate. My deer rifle (30-06) doesn't have iron sights. I could probably borrow something depending on your specs.

Looks like the guys are getting itchy trigger fingers again. Sign up umgud to your list.

How many do you think we can have on your list of shooters, Cap? Maybe we could settle on a target amount and then we can get a response figure for 2/2 or 3/3 like last time.

2 for .22/2 for CF or 3 for .22/3 for CF.

I got a great gun shop, Clark Brothers, about and 1/2 hour north. I'l try and get up there this weekend and get targets. I want to get enough for 15 entries, like the last match. Maybe do 3/3, ten slow standing, then ten each rapid sitting and prone. Magazine change for rapid fire.

I'll ping all postal match shooters to sign up first, then open it to the rest of FR till full.

Be sure and post the rules and firearm requirements first, as I will most likely have to borrow the centerfire.

That's great. We going to have to do some time changes on the rapids and timed fires. I ordered a '03A3 from the CMP and I would love to try it out with this match. I have never tried to work a bolt as fast as I can so it should get interesting.

NY said he had a lot of people who were trying to get into the last match and were late. I wonder if he still has a list? I asked OKsooner why he couldn't make the match and he replied back that he had a death in the family. Retirednavy never responded.

I have a High Power match tomorrow. It's been raining all week at night so I hope it continues or at least doesn't start doing it during Saturday morning. I have to find a match where I don't have to wake up at O Dark 30.

'03A3

A3 - as in an AR flattop? What does the '03 stand for?

I bought a Bushmaster three months ago, I am still working on the correct ammo, sights, etc.

I have a RRA 2 stage trigger in the mail, so that should tighten the groups up a bit vs. the mil-spec trigger.

1903A3 Springfield. The one I'm buying is the Remington with the "C" stock which is the pistol grip rather than the traditional straight stock. The price is 475 dollars with $19.85 shipping to your house.

The requirements are that you have to be a competitor with a rating and be a member of the club or a sanctioned state association. Go to the CMP at www.odcom.com

They already ran out of the low numbered rifles but I don't know which those are. I forgot and deleted the e mail.

Tomorrow, I'm going to use my Armalite Golden Eagle and hope I can squeeze five more shots on my average. I want to start getting higher than a 465 average to the 471 Master score. I won't go if it's raining.

I use 69 grain MatchKings, H335 powder and Winchester primers. I should use Lake City brass because everyone else does but I finally have a load that I like using R-P brass. I gained 15 points from my average when my son told me abut the book, The Competitive AR15 and Handloading for Competition, both by Zediker. The AR book mentioned that shooters take a 8-36 tap and go down and redo the threads for the front sight and then back it up with a 8-36 set screw from the bottom. I never knew that my front sight was loose. It was like having a new rifle. I mentioned that to the guys I shoot with and they looked at me like I was insane. It turned out that I was the only one that didn't know that. Everyone else already locked their front sights. You better check to see if your's wiggles.

Count me in for the 100 yd rifle competition, if it happens. I just joined a range with a 100 yd target. I've got the .22 Thompson Center Classic and love to use it! =^)

"... They already ran out of the low numbered rifles but I don't know which those are."

I think those are the ones with the improper heat-treatment to the receiver. Collector's items, I suppose.

I wouldn't feel right about shooting one of those even if it had the afterthought pressure relief hole drilled in it.

Not reloading...yet

Picked up a box of 77gr BH for competition and a SA battlepack for practice / plinking.

I have 500 LC brass I'm saving for the day I start reoading.

For for whoever is going to do the rifle match, I offer the following:

I'm too much of a shooter to have something I can't take to the range. I do have a couple of pieces that I won't shoot but It's mainly because I fell into the deal and I can't justify beating up something that's rare.

The heartbreak is doing all the prep work and reloading and then have the receiver put a nice big dent in the shoulder of the case or have someone stand on the stuff.

I've resigned myself that the cases work is finished when the bullet hits the paper, then I buy more brass.

Success. I got 90 house-brand targets (identical to an SR-21), @ 20 cents apiece. Not sure if that simulates 200 or 300 yards, I think that is the target used for rapid prone. Do you think these will work for my suggested slow standing, rapid sitting&prone?

Open to suggestions on time for a rapid fire for the bolt rifles. I've shot bolt Mauser98 at our match, it was tough to get 10 off in 60/sitting 70/prone till I got the hang of it. How about 90 and 100 seconds for the bolts?

I saw those '03 Springfields in my CMP catalog...tempting.

It occures to me that not all non-autoloaders are bolt action. The .22 I'll be using is lever action, and I expect some folks may have .22 & CF pumps. Many are tube feed, thus won't support a magazine change. Also, some of the bolt actions may not have magazines and have to be single feed.

How about 10 sec off if you cant do a magazine change, and plus 20 sec if you have to do single feed.

This is getting complicated...input/suggestions are requested.

The targets are perfect. It's never a big deal as long as they can be seen and they're the same for all the shooters. The time is good too. I could probably do the shorter time but people who have never shot high power before might have a problem. Add the Kid to the list. I should have the '03 in a month which I can use no matter what the time limit for getting the targets back and forth would be. I doubt that we'll finish in thirty more days.

It should be exciting for me to use a bolt gun that I've never owned or used and never had the chance to use in a match. If there's mechanical problem with it, I'll use a $140 Yugo 98K. For the .22, I'm going to use the most common .22 out there. A 10/22.

Sounds good. If it gets too complicated and you still want to do standing, sitting and prone, just do a slow fire match. That would eliminate a lot of the probems that people had when they shot. You noticed that scores really took a nose dive on some of the shooters.

OK, I'm gonna work up the rules and post an announcement. I like the rapid fire cause it is one of my better events (with a rifle anyway). Stay tuned, I'll ping the list.
