I was so surprised to read this. To find it on the source link I give for the NYT, scroll down, and you will see what I've posted, above, appear in a box on the right side of the page, as part of another article.
I have also included Le Pen's web site for those who read French.
BTW, I do not support this guy, but I honestly think this election may be even more interesting that the media has led us to believe thus far.

Some good ideas, some not so good, some down right dictatorial.

If I were there and able, LePen would get my vote before Chirac. The 'bombing' of synagogues in France is not acceptable to the 'a
peacement at all cost French, IMHO.
The French, like the Europeans here in America, have become a minority in significant parts of their country.
A 'melting pot' is fine, but the SLAG has to be 'drawn off' periodically to maintain strength.

Napoleon would be right proud. This ought to turn a few talking heads.

This is not best described as "right wing" in my opinion, but as "nationalist". It is strongly nationalist, and must absolutely scare the mess out of one Europe types, but no doubt encourages other nationalist minded folk of Europe who desire more autonomy for their nations and a more specific cultural indenty undiluted by the threat, real or percieved, offered by immigration. In my opinion, these nations face more of a threat from their own self inflicted socialist stupidity, though illegial immigration is certainly not helping their cultural identity (though one may wonder if in certain cases it helps their economic identity, considering the destructive practises engraved in many European's slef identity!), nor do immigrants, specifically Muslim, aid at all to law and order. Le Pen is not, by far, the best man for France, or anyone, but then, one is terribly unlikely to find someone who is anywhere near "perfect" in Europe, much less France. The danger, or benefit, he and folks in his nationalistic vein of thought pose to the US, I do not profess to know. I doubt that he would be interested in any sort of hostile action, though it may mean my father, and Air Guardsman, would not get to enjoy Southern France anymore for annual training!

Le Pen isn't going to win. All of the voters who voted for Jospin and all of the other leftist candidates will vote for Chirac in the second round. Le Pen doesn't have a chance.
To: summer
Other than the part about giving the police more powers, I don't have too much of a problem with that platform. Does anybody think that Le Pen has a chance to be elected? Not me. If all the socialist/leftists hold their noses and vote for Chirac, which I think they will do, Le Pen hasn't a chance in the world.

Looks like a good agneda for any nation to me, except for the expanded police force and compulsory patriotism for students. Eurpopeans can't help loving intrusive governments, even when they are right about other fundamentals.

Anyone know his stance on gun control? That's the easiest way to sepparate the conservatives from the fascists. Do they want armed, responsible citizens, or unarmed victims?
To: summer
With a few reservations and qualifications, I can sign on to this guy. Some people seem to think it's fascist to regard the well being of your own citizens before the rights of interlopers. I do not understand that logic.

Summer, thanks for the post. The media has been very unforthcoming on all of Le Pen's views it seems. After reading this post, I support Le Pen and think that America needs him, too!

Develop programs to increase the birth rate and pay benefits to women who stay at home with their children.HELLO-O-O-O???!!!!
Are there really Freepers who would support such a program? Would you support a politician in the US who advocated paying mothers to stay home and raise babies? Are you guys nuts?

Drudge website has indicated with inserts headed about the distress and hysteria of the British Press. It has given them something to howl about- as if THEY were all that bothered by a Le Pen. The London Daily Mirror is to the fore in this business of screaming about Le Pen.
It could be said of the Mirror ,that it is like an old fashioned woman, of my era in that country. The Mirror has had a jolly good old cry and enjoyed every minute of it.
Few critics anywhere will have actually perused what this man has to say. They just get something second hand and use it as gospel. Herewith a quote:
"The totalitarianisms which modern liberals denounce, and upon which they frequently project their own guilt and insecurity....." From Authority and Delinquency. Author, Alex Comfort. 1950 Routledge and Kegan Paul Ltd. Note that I do not indicate what I think of Le Pen, being as there are two sides to every story.

I think restricting or eliminating the immigration of Muslims makes perfect sense for France. In every country where they become a sizeable minority - and they are now a sizeable minority in France - they develop separatist and violent tendencies. Why should the French play Russian roulette with freedom by allowing even more Muslims in than there already are?

I see London,
I see France,
I see Chirac
Doing a victory dance.
As interesting as this is, LePen has the proverbial snowball's chance to win the presidency.

Expand and give new rights to the police force. This guy is very scary.
A whole squadron of cheese eating surrender monkey police officers ripping the yarmalukes off people's heads is a bit too 1939 for me.

pay benefits to women who stay at home with their children Another politician appealing to the welfare bums [yawn].

Why would you not support this guy? Aside from Outlawing the wearing of yarmulkes and Muslim headscarves in schools. That's a little over the top. Giving extra rights to the police? What rights do they have or not have? I cannot tell on that one. The rest of his proposals sound good. Maybe he can run in the US.
