They speak to me in words I would not hear,
Yet their voices won't be silenced.
They beseech me with whispers.
Asking, 'why were we left?
They cannot understand.
The wind carries their questions.
The stars shine down as tears.
The moon becomes their faces.
And I have no answer worth speaking.

Since the war ended, over 10,000 reports received relating to Americans still unaccounted for in Indochina have convinced experts that hundreds of men are still alive, waiting for their country to rescue them. The notion that Americans are dying without hope in the hands of a long-ago enemy belies the idea that we left Vietnam with honor. It also signals that tens of thousands of lost lives were a frivolous waste of our best men.
I pray each day for our POWs and MIAs that they will be brought home.
Thank you my Heroes for serving our land and for my Freedom, I owe you a GREAT debt.
There is an older couple that live around the corner from me who have a son MIA from 'nam. - It has destroyed their lives. - They have two flag poles in their front yard; one flies the American flag, the other flies the POW/MIA flag. - They must be better patriots than I am; I don't think that I would be flying the American flag every day if it was my son that Congress had abandoned over there.
Let's face it; Congress doesn't want them to come home, there's too much that they don't want revealed.
Thank you for doing this thread.
Ya just went over the top. Please remove me from your ping list.
When a pilot didn't come back "Why him and not me?" was a near constant wail from each of the other pilots as the alcohol began to work its wonders. That's because "he" was always a "great guy," "a family man," "a trusted friend," and all the other qualities each of us wanted to be.
"Why them and not me?" is a near universal lament of those in combat who survived when friends didn't.
Thanks for posting the piece....
Thanks for the ping. I don't agree with that, but the "Never Forget our POW's MIA's" (and KIAs and disabled too) message is too important to mess up the thread with a debate. You can keep pinging me, and I'm going to intrude with an old post I occasionally bring up, but which generates no interest or bumps. COLLISION AT SEA .
Might be the right thread.
You got it- when I have a little more time, maybe I'll tell you the little bit "more" I know about the story.
Thanks for the post though. Does anyone here know much about the dogtag retrieval projects in VN?
But I can't.
I do respect our Vets and wish something could be done to bring home any living or dead Vietnam Vets.
I have my feelings about Vietnam but hold them back out of respect for the people who went over there believing we were there to make a difference and the many more who were forced over there through the draft.
It makes me sick seeing these fat ass politicians who do nothing except continue to sell us out as they get 30% pay raises for doing such a good job.
I know many people here on Free Republic support our Vets, but one of the last letters I got from the VFW said that only 3% of American's are helping our Vets with badly needed money.
I will never forget Them, and when the time comes as it surely will, I will defend my Constitution from enemies foriegn and Domestic.........
I thank you for your post and for serving our country to keep me free.
Maybe, but those around me don't forget.
