If you believe what both the U.S. and Missouri Constitutions tell us -- that law-abiding citizens have a RIGHT to keep and bear arms in defense of their homes, persons and property -- then come join the GUN RIGHTS RALLY that will be taking place in the CAPITOL ROTUNDA in JEFFERSON CITY on WEDNESDAY STARTING AROUND 9:15 A.M.
To "bear" arms means to "carry" them (check the dictionary). But unfortunately, our RIGHTS are being DAILY DENIED by draconian Missouri laws that PROHIBIT the law-abiding from being armed for self-defense.
("But you can carry openly," someone will say. Yeah? Just try it.)
Governor Bob Holden (also known as "One-Term Bob") spends an estimated $800,000 of YOUR tax dollars every year on his ARMED bodyguard and security detail.* Then he has the GALL to tell law-abiding voters that WE have NO RIGHT to carry a concealed handgun to protect ourselves and our children, and that he will VETO any attempt on the part of our legislators to pass such a law!
We need EVERYBODY OUT to tell the governor -- and our legislators -- what we think.
And if we fail to get a RIGHT-TO-CARRY law passed in Missouri THIS YEAR, then it's time to REPLACE some of our legislators who are failing to stand up and fight for our rights (maybe we should also DUMP One-Term Bob at the earliest opportunity).
Here are some of the rally details:
Date: Wednesday morning (TOMORROW!)
Location: Capitol Rotunda, Jefferson City, MO
Time: Rally officially begins at 930. Meeting runs to 1130. Then GO BY AND SEE your representative and senator! Thank those who are supporting, and let the other ones know how you feel.
BRING YOUR WIVES AND CHILDREN. WE NEED TONS OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN THERE TO PROTEST THEIR LACK OF DEFENSE!
There are charter buses leaving from both Kansas City and St. Louis. For more info on these, as well as for rally posters, see the following web sites:
Kansas City area: http://www.wmsa.net
St. Louis area: http://www.sacmo.org
We will NEVER go away.
We DEMAND the Right To Carry for personal defense.
We want other pro gun, pro-freedom legislation passed.
We will not tolerate more gun control measures that threaten our firearms heritage.
Our Rights are NOT what's wrong with Missouri!
* Note: I don't have a hard source on the $800,000 a year. That's just what I've heard reported by one gun rights advocate here in the state. Whatever the exact figure the governor spends on armed guards, it's definitely enormous.
Policemen killed 330 innocent citizens in 1996 and CCers (30). Statistically you are 300 times more likely to be innocently shot by a policeman than a CC owner.
The source for the 330/ 30 statistic is Professor John R. Lott, Jr. in "Now That the Brady Law Is Law, You Are Not Any Safer Than Before," Philadelphia Inquirer, Feb. 1, 1994, p. A9.
This is NOT a statistic on concealed-carry permit holders, it is a statistic for all civilian gun owners in the USA! These far, far out number the CCW permit holders.
This must be John Lott. Sorry, this is not John Lott. Well I don't think it was. I will search for it. Wish it was however, I think it is not. Pulled the cop killings and the innocent killings from a Florida story 15 months ago. Have it some where on the harddisk.
Correct on both counts. Personally, I'm certain that either would have put it over the top. The wording was EXTREMELY misleading as to the financial cost of Prop. B. I have heard some rumors within the gun rights community that this was done deliberately, basically at behest of the anti-gunners and then gov Mel Carnahan.
It's John Lott. Pulled the source of this stat directly from his 1996 study. It's not CCW holders; it's all gun-owning citizens. See above.
When you do, you have just registered your firearm for future confiscation.
Did you not realize that any time you purchase a firearm in Missouri, that "permit to purchase" is RETAINED by the sheriff?
We already have gun registration. Most folks just don't realize it.
As far as registration and seizure goes, wasn't it you who advised me to send letters to all the LEOs, advising them I intend to exercise my right to carry? If the day of gun seizures ever comes, you don't think that'll mark you out as the first gun nut to be visited by the SWAT team?
I personally think license-to-carry is going to make it through the legislature this year pretty much with flying colors. Whether the governor vetos it, is up to him.
If he does, then he clearly shows himself as an enemy of every good citizen who simply desires to be able to legally protect himself/ herself and their families from violent criminals. There's simply no good reason, no good excuse, for such an action. He calls for "homeland security" but does his best to block citizens from providing it for their own families.
If he does veto it, he also publicly reveals himself as a absolute hypocrite -- since we the taxpayers spend more than $700,000 a year on the armed security detail for him and his family -- yet he uses the power of the office we've put him in to prohibit good citizens from defending their own families, at their own expense.
Handgun registration violates the Missouri constitution.
I been on vacation.
I am searching for the original posting, and it was an article from FL. It is also true that honest american citizens are also commit less crime, are safer that cops.
I also ran across data on COP shootings killing innocent citizens at DOJ, again did not footnote the story. I am learning this business that someday footnoting will increase you integrity.
Todate, can not put my finger on it. I now am more carefull to cut and past the data instead of just linking to URL links to work that I do.
I would like to find a rollup of total number of CCW licenses in the United states and redo the issue.
