STILL not comfortable with new FR format

I like A LOT of things about the new format, I want to establish that fact right away. BUT......With the old format, all I had to do was open FR from my faves, and instantly there were the Latest Posts, plus a concise list of Breaking News, Front Page News, etc., right in plain sight, no searching.....
Now when I open FR, I can't tell where I am, have to scroll down to find breaking news, and it just feels disjointed and sprawling. I'd like to find a way to set up the format so I don't have to seek out the latest news.

If I'm reading you right, it would mean that I'd have to UNSUBSCRIBE all of the topics FIRST, and then go back in and select them in the order I want.Yes you are reading me right. It is a real pain in the rear end. When I first tried to set it up I didn't think about the order they would be in so I just started at the top and clicked away. Those first five will always be there then whichever one you set next will come up looking like this.
New/Activism
Breaking News
then it shows the latest threads in Breaking News. See posting #11 again. That is what it will look like.
Takes time and patients. Good Luck

The "new" format is nowhere near as attractive and easy to use as the old.

NOW, when I click on topics in the top right, ALL it shows is General, no Breaking News. Arrgghh!Have you been refreshing your screen? This might help.

The "new" format is nowhere near as attractive and easy to use as the old.You can say that again. And there are not
near as many people responding to the threads as there used
to be, except for certain threads, where some people
have developed an ongoing comraderie with a continuing subject.
Don't get me wrong that is alright, but FreeRepublic is not like it used to be.

My bad. I'm thinking that everyone browsed the old format like I did. For me, nothing's changed...other than being better.

If you're on Internet Explorer, you can click on
Tools on the menu bar, go to
Internet Options, click on
General click on
Fonts and change the font to just about anything you like.
Under View on the menu bar you can increase font size by clicking on Text size.

I gave up on it for today, but now I know what to do. Thanks a lot for the explanation.
The thread offered a lot of interesting ideas. (and I thought I was gonna be flamed for being a whiner)
LOL!

You'd be interested in the beta. Thank you!
I'll be using the beta 'till those features make it into the official version.
There is so much to like about all the new features.
I appreciate all the work everyone has put into it...

Thanks. I guess I need to invest a little time to fine tune things. Got any extra time you could donate (lol)!!

#1 When I go to My Mail and use it, there is no drop down menu to get back to Forum. How do I navigate this page besides hitting the back button?
#2 When I go to Locale it asks me to set my preference - which I have done. But everytime I go to Locale I have to again scroll down and choose my state, rather than going there automatically. Is there a possibility of setting this feature to the Home state, with a drop down for other Locales in the event we want to go there? It would save clicks throughs. I really enjoyed the way Locale was done previously, with the small flag in the left corner.
Very much like the change of notification to automatic for Mail and Posts to Me.

This is what the top of my page looks like. Down the right hand side I have all of the latest article titles. I like that portion very much because it allows me to scroll on just this page to see all the titles. Where do you see Threads | Messages
threads = articles
Messages = post/replies.

I'm not posting this as an invitation to be flamed for my denseness, and I think there are probably others here who feel the same. I just need some advice on how to make this forum easier to navigate.
BTW, I've already done the subscribing thing for the "topics," but I still have to scroll all over to find them. Anybody have any advice?
