I am fleeing California and would like information on states without property tax, or states with low property taxes. Thanks for taking the time to reply to this post. I could use all the information I can get.

Avoid NJ. The Shore is nice but we are paying about $10,400/ year in property taxes alone. State income taxes are about another 4% of the gross.

Wyoming? Idaho?
I don't know.
Probably Arkansas.
They've got a little development there called Whitewater.

Florida has NO income tax, the sales tax starts at 6%, with some counties adding on about 0.5% to 1.0% on top of that. As far as property taxes are concerned, they vary from county to county, with the following having relatively high (for Florida) property tax rates: Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Orange and Hillsborough. Alabama reportedly has the lowest property taxes in the nation, although they have a state income tax. Good Luck!

Try Louisiana. I hear they have good Barbequed food.

Eastern Washington state. Property is reasonable. Property taxes a little high, but no income tax. And Washington could use a few more Conservatives!

Check out the Washington/Oregon border. One state doesn't have income tax (work there), adjoining state doesn't have sales tax (shop there). Pick the state/county with lowest property tax.

Ask about car insurance as well. We live in southern NJ. Salem County has lovely country areas and the property taxes are very reasonable. But auto insurance is extremely high in NJ with just a few carriers to choose from.
So I would recommend checking auto insurance rates as well. Good luck !

The rural areas of north Florida are good unless you need a job. I lived in CA for a while. Big mistake. Here I can shoot coons in my front yard. Try to do that in CA.

Nazi Jersey has the highest automobile rates in the country because state politicians have hounded most insurers for years. Besides, who wants to live in a state where the most conservative state politician is Christie Todd Whitman. The entire state is run for tax eaters around New York and Philadelphia.
In other words, if you hate California, stay out of Jersey unless you HAVE to take a job there.

Welcome to Tennessee. I fled here from the land of fruits and nuts about 30 years ago. Actually I stopped in Utah for about 20 years but Tennesse is where I ended up and I aint leaving! I live in Grundy county. The taxes are low and they do not even require building permits to build a house. It is kind of like America used to be...

Oh, and if you find this out, let me know too. Not that I would move, just curious. Yeah Joe. We KNOW that the tax collector doesn't DARE come to your walled compound near Death Valley as they don't want to take on your private army, so you can therefore afford to live in the Golden State. :)

It goes without saying that you don't want to come to Taxxachusetts. Vermont is a socialist paradise as well. Maine has lots o' commies too. Southern NH has been polluted by people who screwed up Massachusetts and are in the process of screwing up that state. NY is yet another commie cesspool. Connecticut? I'd rather live in Massachusetts - that's how bad that place is. Same for RI. Well, that about sums up New England. Barf.
