• Rick Roberts’ high-placed law enforcement official said that the van Dams were involved in "swinging, lots of wife swapping."
• Rick Roberts’ high-placed law enforcement official said that before Danielle’s disappearance, the van Dam’s neighbor, David Westerfield "found out about the family’s (van Dam’s) swinging lifestyle and approached them to host an adult party at his house."

David Westerfield has been quoted in the press as saying that he was a friend of the van Dams.

The van Dams have denied this, stating that their only contact with him was when Brenda and Danielle came to his home to sell girl scout cookies, and when they exchanged greeting as they passed by.

• Rick Roberts’ high-placed law enforcement official said that on the night of Danielle’s disappearance, "Brenda van Dam was at a local Poway bar where she was grinding away on the dance floor and possibly ‘did’ a guy in the parking lot."

David Westerfield openly admitted that he was at the bar that night. He claims that he danced with Brenda van Dam. Brenda denies this.

You can set the example all you want, but the community doesn't have to follow. And forcing them to follow is called tyranny.

So, my proposal that decent people set good examples and reprove parents who do not leads to tyranny? I don't think so. I did not propose a law to stop the sinful lifestyles. That is not at all what I was talking about. Consider how many people are having hissy fits because some of us have actually had the audacity to condemn the Van Dam's behavior? We need to speak out. And, we have the right to do it! And we have the right to consider the Van Dam's suspect behavior as well as Westerfield's. I find it odd that some of the people ready to string up Westerfield don't at least consider that there could be a lot more to the story than what we know now. Their minds are set in stone.

Stay on topic! Regardless, there are cases in which local community members have taken parents to court... it's not unheard of. Let us know what you decide. It would be awesome if you would be the catalist for change..just think, you could be keeping the other kids out of danger.

Some of you have SERIOUSLY disgusted me. I have no agenda in this, but you are all bickering like babies. I think that the Van Dams are SCUM. I think that in cases such as this, the scum closest to the child should be looked at first. I am nauseated by the shopping, PR, looking good for the camera, drugs, etc. and I think a case for neglect and endangerment would be easy to make. I don't see a lot of hard evidence against Westerfield, and I want the RIGHT person to get punished. Those of you running around calling him a murdering pedophile have FAR less evidence of him being a scumbag than that pointing to the "loving" parents being scumbags. Most of us don't care about all these stupid personal squabbles, and they reduce the value of these threads.
