I don't see commercial American TV over here, but I heard there's all kinds of envirowacko commercials showing ANWR as soaring mountain vistas, etc.
I can't remember where I saw them (probably on NR Online), but Goldberg had some great pics of the proposed drilling area he took last year.
It's basically a flat coastal tundra. Pretty if you like that kind of thing, but this is not like drilling in the middle of Yosemite.

Okay, I feel guilty so I got off my lazy butt. The pics are halfway down in this column:
ANWR picsI don't believe in desroying nature just for the h**l of it, but you can see we're not talking about a hotspot of natural beauty here.

Having been there and driven the Haul road (as we call it up here) to the coast, I figure it is 80 to 100 miles from the foot of the mountains to the coast line. You can't see a mountain one from where they want to drill.

I got as far as Livengood...

When I was in Alaka I learned that the vast majority of Alaskans were overwhelmingly in favor of drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. That's good enough for me. Ignore the mainland do-gooders and tart drillin fellas.

I think thats where the pavement ends, I think it is like 500 miles more to the coast. Most people have no concept of just how big Alaska is.

Yeah, we turned west from there to Manley Hot Springs, end of the road that way.

Since we are dependent on oil, albeit foreign oil, it behooves the greens to get on the bandwagon and be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Should the Middle East war(s) trump the flow, the greens will be squashed in their blatant distortions for development of ANWR. Competing for leases with bonds for ecological safeguards should be required to satisfy everyone. If lease holders are rewarded for ecological sensitivity, it would seem that oil exploration is the short term answer to our dependency.
With 19+ million acres and actual development of only about 2,000 of those acres, it would seem wise to listen to Alaskans like Stomper who overwhelming favor ANWR oil exploration and who know what they are talking about.

I heard the Greenies are putting out ads based on the "if you buy drugs you support terrorists" ads.
Their ads say "if you buy oil (for your SUV) you support terrorists".
So our response should be "if you buy oil from the Middle East, you support terrorists. Buy Alaska oil."

"if you buy oil from the Middle East, you support terrorists. Buy Alaska oil." Hi GATOR ... I LOVE it! &;-)

The ANWR is no more than an artic desert. Besides oil developers can drill the ocean floor without spilling a drop.
Its all about money. Enviromentalst had rather eat dirt than see American oil companies make a dime of new domestic exploration, but sending American money overseas with little hope of retunn is OK. Go figure.

"Enviromentalst had rather eat dirt than see American oil companies make a dime ... "I hope they get to eat their own tripe. &;-)

Try this ... and then I'll be impressed you enviro-wackos! &;-)

How about a website called ANWR.com. 24 hour live cam coverage of this pristine wilderness of mountains and streams where happy carabou frolic in the meadows. Since most of us will never step foot in this tundra wasteland, we would all be able to see what the enviro-nazis are so hell-bent on protecting. Me, I would just like a little petrol for my environmentally unfriendly SUV.
