President Bush's Palestinian Bombshell
April 4th, 2002 | Sabertooth

Posted on 04/04/2002 7:52:27 PM PST by Sabertooth

ON reviewing President Bush's outstanding speech today on the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, I was struck by the following passage...

"I call on the Palestinian people, the Palestinian Authority, and our friends in the Arab world to join us in delivering a clear message to terrorists. Blowing yourself up does not help the Palestinian cause. To the contrary, suicide bombing missions could well blow up the best and only hope for a Palestinian state."

Let's look at that last line again...

"To the contrary, suicide bombing missions could well blow up the best and only hope for a Palestinian state."

For the first time since the Oslo folly, we see the possibility that there might not necessarily be a second "palestinian" state in the Middle East. Jordan of course, is the first.

This is a very hopeful sign.

Let Israel be Israel.

I am appalled by the lack of critical thinking skills by many on this board, not you Sabertooth, but the range of replies that range from Bush is a traitor to Bush is confused to Bush is the antichrist.

The Bush speech was a mastery of diplomacy, the proof being that everyone seems to find something to like about the speech and something to detest.

Think people, what is going on right now? That's right the IDF is killing terrorists and breaking their things. Exactly as Bush said would happen to rerrorists. The IDF will continue to do so untill the pre-arranged time to pull out just shortly before the arrival of Powell.

Powell will then attempt to arrange a deal between a discredited Arafat, who's 30,000 man police force and their infrastructure is in tatters. What help was Arafat to the millions of West Bank residents who remained huddled in their hovels while the IDF ran rampant? What help were their Arab or EU brothers?

Can you imagine Arafat negotiating for millions of howling mad Palistinians? Heck, if he even talks to Powell Arafat may well have a price placed on his head by the more militant groups that he helped spawn and supported throughout his miserable life.

What we may be seeing is the gabmit where the US helps solve the Palistinian problem in return for Arab acquescence in the Removal of Sadam.

What you say is true....however there are non evangelical hard right Christians like myself (and many Southerners like me I know) who simply support Israel because it is at least for us an easy case of right over wrong....regardless of Biblical or providential perspectives. I also have personal ties to Jews in Israel which makes my opinion entirely subjective.

I doubt our support for Israel will sway liberal American Jews much in any event. Their dislike for us is entrenched and they mostly seem like Pali sympathizers anyhow....not just them but take a look at the waffling Labor party in Israel...hell they are as bad as Powell. America supports Israel not because of some loony ZOG conspiracy but because we are still mostly a Christian nation....just my opinion. We have much more in common religiously and culturally and politically with the Israelis than the barbarian despots surrounding her.

Novak is Lebanese Maronite I think....he's letting his ethno-centricity get the best of him....he should go ask his Phalange brethren how they feel about the Palis...LOL.

Then we will have to attack Syria. They are the ones that are a problem.

A man of deceit and fierce countenance will betray Israel.

An amazing description of Ariel Sharon !

"No you are not"

I am not which? Not on Bush's case about our borders and his disgraceful pandering to illegals, or not supporting him in this war? I can do both, bash him about the sorry state of our borders, his lack of concern about our sovereignty, and support him in the war effort.

I notice your pretty happy with the signals his speech sent. And you can't deny that the Arabs are twisting in the wind over their "what is a terrorist" tap dance. They are very upset at having been boxed in and made to look bad.

I agree but I want it to be on our terms on the ground we choose not in some defensive posture created because Israel will not move without permission.

No, Arik is not the man of peace that will force Israel into a treaty and then betray her. It will be a Gentile king.

I know, I was teasing earlier.

Several of us on this thread fall into that category.

We're not, we don't ask for permission before defending ourselves.

I'd say we see it pretty much the same way.

Sabertooth believes that Bush is just trying to avoid uniting the muslim world in their jihad and their push to take Israel and Jerusalem--but he misses the fact that they were already united when they attacked the US last September.

I see no tangible indication that we plan to de-throne Saddam or take out his WsMD anywhere in the near future.

"So, President W., when is the US going to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan?"

Whenever we feel like it, if we ever do.

Being the mightiest military and economic power in the entire history of this little planet has its perks, and those who don't want us abusing said perks would have been clever to have left us alone.

The giant isn't sleeping any longer.

Likewise, the Palestinian nitwits are getting the war that they asked for. They said that they wanted to die as martyrs for their cause, after all, and there isn't much more than that they can do to Israel's superior military.

Here the Palestinians had a sympathetic press with which they could have pounded Israel into submission via negotiations and negative media coverage day after day, yet they chose the more macho military option to resolve their dispute. That's extremely unwise for the weaker military power to select as its preferred option.

A few of those Taliban and al-qaeda survivors in Afghanistan may have even figured the above lesson out on their own by now...

"Let's not kid ourselves. Bush has caved in to Powell and Rice who choose the House of Saud and Esau over the House of Jacob. We are witnessing a betrayal of biblical proportions."......That was also my take. I felt a betrayal, a bending of the spine due to influence. I don't think its Rice and Powell though. I think he's bending to world pressure, because they are virtually all proPalestinian. We need to contact the WhiteHouse and support Bush...let him know that we stand by him if he supports Israel.

I agree. We do not need another Palestinian state other than Jordan.

Did you hear Rush Limbaugh today warn Bush over his ME policy?

Limbaugh said that Bush would be making a gigantic blunder if he had not already worked out an Israeli withdrawal before publicly telling Israel and Sharon that Israel had to pull out now from the terror camps and terror enclaves in PLO held areas.

Most real conservatives I know do not favor giving the PLO more Israeli land to launch more attacks against an already too narrow Israel. Many of these conservatives are today openly critical of Bush's call for a Palestinian state and for giving Christian Holy sites in Jerusalem to be put under PLO control as Bush was to have had Powell do in a speech slated for the UN on 9/11.

I disagree. The Muslim world has not been united in modern times. Jordan is hardly united with Iran, which is hosting anti-Iraqi Mujahedeen who are at war with Saddam Hussein, who is at loggerheads over disputed oil fields with Kuwait. Libya is at opposite ends of Turkey on every issue known to Man, and Turkey is in near war with the Kurds in Iraq.

That's "united" to you??

What have you been smoking?!

No argument here -- but that's a case-by-case thing. But the remarkable thing for me, is that as a group, Evangelicals have been such steadfast supporters. Or maybe it's just that all the Evangelicals I know, are that way.

I doubt our support for Israel will sway liberal American Jews much in any event. Their dislike for us is entrenched and they mostly seem like Pali sympathizers anyhow....not just them but take a look at the waffling Labor party in Israel...hell they are as bad as Powell.

When you say of liberal American Jews, "Their dislike for us," does "us" refer to "non-evangelical hardright Christians"? If so, you are right. But then, they are hostile to religious Jews and religious Christians. But not to Moslems. They are intimidated and fascinated by them -- the way they are by blacks.

In any event, based on my experience and what I have read from the likes of the Times' Tom Friedman, I suspect that there is a split among socialist Jews in America. Some will have been partially shocked back to their senses. Others will support the Arabs more than ever. I say this, because ten years ago, a certain socialist Jewish anti-Semite told me of being consoled by a friend on the street. The friend had read my letter to the editor, dripping in sarcasm, following the acquittal, by a racist jury, of Lemrick Nelson Jr. for the murder of rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, during the 1991 Crown Heights pogrom. I claimed to have "solved" Rosenbaum's murder, saying he had stuck the knife in himself, and Nelson had merely been trying to save him. The friend saw the anti-Semite on the street, and hugged her, to console her for the letter. The anti-Semite was my sister.

America supports Israel not because of some loony ZOG conspiracy but because we are still mostly a Christian nation....just my opinion. We have much more in common religiously and culturally and politically with the Israelis than the barbarian despots surrounding her.

Europe is composed of allegedly Christian nations, but they are all ready to screw the Jews yet again. While Christianity may be a factor, it has to be a uniquely American brand of Christianity.

Novak is Lebanese Maronite I think....he's letting his ethno-centricity get the best of him....he should go ask his Phalange brethren how they feel about the Palis...LOL.

Thanks for the info. BTW, what does "ZOG" mean? "Zionist something"?

What, did you miss the entire far-right anti-American movement of the 1980's??

ZOG is NAZI-speak for the Zionist Occupation Government (AKA the world is run by Jews).

... now I have to go take a shower.

The Muslim world has not been united in modern times.

True, but two of the things that might unite them are anti-Semitism and a jihad for Jerusalem. That's what I believe our present mixed message on Palestine is designed to pre-empt.

What happened to your bull?

if you are yasser arafat, are you happy or disappointed with bush's speech today? i say youre walking around trying to keep your pants on youre so damned happy.... yeah, he got "reprimanded"... FOR THE BAZILLIONTH TIME!!! this is a disgrace, how many times will we say arafat must denounce terror? yasser got and will get EXACTLY what the little barf wants... international help, and a big name like powell. his isolation will be OVER when powell shows up. his "isolation" has been reduced to a "time out" now... he is sleeping like a fat little baby tonight, knowing he will be freed when powell shows up, and israel would never be able to so much as break a fingernail on his rotten old body before powell shows up. the US embarrassed israel today, if you ask me. bush has lost it, im ultra disappointed in him. he said some good things, yeah, but the time for rhetoric is long gone. its time for a bomb up arafats arse.
