I was a regular lurker then. No computer at home, could read but not post from work. Fone memories of the old crew, no one could make me laugh like then. Something about one Debs .38s vs. another Debs .44s and some Pharmer named Phil)
To those naysayers of the new format-I have the same thing to say to you that I have to say to Deep Purple fans that say Purple will never be the same with out Blackmore-Get over it and enjoy something new.

My wife and I started lurking on the WhiteWater thread. What year was that ? It ran a long while.

I think 1997-98 was the heyday of the Whitewater topic. Don't forget, for most of us at that time, the discussion was a continuation of the discussion from the Whitewater topic on the old Prodigy News BB where we were going strong since 1993. Jim Robinson provided us a forum where we didn't have to worry about moderators, and one by one, we all made it over here. Well, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Now we got these pesky moderators running about again!
Of course, they are not half as bad as those Prodigy hallway monitors used to be. And I'm afraid they are a necessary evil now that the forum has gotten so large and successful.

Thank you. I didn't find FR until October '98 through the Whitewater link on Drudge's site.
Had I known about it in '96, I would've have only had a 2yr. head start to my present addiction!

As long as we are going through forum changes, shall we petition Mr. Robinson to put Honest Abe back on main page for our Neo-Confederates? They do, after all, choose to post all their drivel about the "evil yankee Republican" on a site run by a California GOPer. This is Reagan, Lincoln, and Keyes country. Maybe they should start their own forum for people with their POV....maybe Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, Gale Norton?? ;-)

We can always post a photo of Robert E. Lee on the site...along with the quote of his where he praises Lincoln. It's funny the Neo-Confederates scream about "history revisionism". They choose to ignore that most of their "heros" came to highly respect Lincoln's leadership skills and southern background.

It's all just lack of understanding really.
It would be great if they could spend some time at Lincoln's home in Springfield.
Tour his tomb. Visit New Salem.
Eat at the diner near the railroad station in Lincoln.
With some ed-jee-cashun, they'd come around, I am sure.

I like most Southerners personally its just the revisionist history of the more militant neoconfederates really pisses me off.

I remember posting a vanity once way back when and there weren't even enough people to flame it.Reagan joked that his Social Security number was "3". Would your Free Republic number (if we had one) be in the single digits? :^)

Yes, I've pointed that out to them. Most FR members fit the profile of the types of Americans they despise. LOL
The point about the participants in the Civil War having respect for one another is a good one. I wonder what General Lee would think about someone who calls the brave men of the 1860s scum, trash, and all the other names they come up with, after 140 years, no less. I don't think Lee would have much in common with them.
This is Reagan, Lincoln, and Keyes country. Maybe they should start their own forum for people with their POV....maybe Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, Gale Norton?? ;-)
That's probably what they tried to do just like some of the one-issue conspiracy cases we had here that tried to start their own site, and didn't get very far. Why run your own revisionist site with just a few members when you can flood an established conservative news forum, with hundreds of thousands of hits per day, with your one-issue agenda BTTT as much as possible. The separation of "New/Activism" from "General Interest" has alleviated some of this. I suppose they'll start posting their 140 year old subjects on News/Activism though. LOL
They've done such a good job mariginalizing themselves with their extreme language that I quit debating them (and in so doing, quit bumping their threads to the top). I don't want to get in the way of them hanging themselves with their own rope. :^)
