No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.
You have given all good programmers a black eye, sir. You wouldn't treat a dog this way, but you are willing to so ignore and mock us men and women?
It was on the beta site for a month. All the complaints were handled as they came up. All those who ignored the beta site will have to wait their turn. You had your chance to give input.* * * * *Tell John what is wrong. I'm a programmer. Telling me "I hate it" doesn't get you noticed. People who don't have specific complaints generally are just complainers who eventually just go along with whatever happens. In two years, they will complain about the next format too. But they will go along with that one too.
Appy, people deserve considerable more respect than you have given here. Be not tarry in disavowing this clap-trap. You are better than this.
And you have been assigned the task of what? Let people vent, illspoken words usually come back to haunt and thus you will have your revenge. No need for you to compete for biggest "a-hole".
I don't believe you can change it, at least not yet. What happens is that the sidebar topic listings change in order of which ones have the most recent posting. For instance, the next time someone posts to Breaking News then that topic will move to the top of the sidebar and stay there someone posts to Front Page again.
How in the world could Classygreeneyedblonde get banned? Other than her silly purple/pink font, she seemed harmless.
BUMMER!
I don't like it!!!!
I'm wit' chu, kiddo. I've been trying it out all week, and I still don't like it! Not one bit! I have to say I absolutely HATE the way the forum has been ever since they made multiple forums out of it. The self search that was "fixed" to search both forums was the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and you STILL had to go out of it to see if you had any mail, etc.
Maybe John needs a vacation on some remote island where there is no computer access?! :) C'mon, John - it seems not many like your latest toy.
It will cull it a lot and there will be few new members. Lastest posts is too difficult to read, a self-search takes forever and it is impossible to get a fast overview of news.
When I first came on line, FR got my attention because it was unlike all the other forums. Clean, fast and not cluttered.
Latest Rumor is that Jim and John Robinson have become Pod People, and are now clones of the State. Destruction of Free Republic and it's user base is their prime directive. Mission accomplished via upgraded software rendering site useless.
Please verify.
Right. Me too. "If at first you don't succeed, read the instructions."
I still think FR should either ditch the flag jpeg, which is 11.2 KBs x your screen resolution, or go back and trim some code. Might increase page load time and stop a lot of griping.
What version of Netscape? Some 4.7+ versions of Netscape have serious problems/bugs. I'm currently running a recent version of Mozilla, from which the newest Netscape versions are derived. This browser works extremely well, and I'm having no problems whatsoever with anything -- including FR's self search.
I'm a monthly; so is my fiance.
That means I get to be a whining a-hole.
Staring at CGEB's homepage for 45 seconds always gave me a couple of visions...
I hate to be a whinner..but I tried the Beta version and hated it.This is hard to read ,hard to navigate.......and I hate the idea that you can literally black out areas on your side bar..
I enjoyed the photo on her profile. Whether or not that was actually CGEB is up for debate.
The funny thing was she rarely posted anything meaningful. She was just kinda . . . . here. You know?
I don't care. I have a professional respect and admiration for Jim and John, and it has been cultivated over four years. They are two of the most talented and enlightened software designers, resource managers and service oriented professionals I've had the honor to encounter. The infrastructure of FR is completely unique, the HTML capability is leading edge, the intuitive interfaces are right on, and they have run this enterprise, quarter by quarter, on a slim slim equipment budget, in a milieu of burgeoning demand ... with virtually NO downtime whatsoever. NONE.
So if they choose to economize the interface ... that's their well considered strategy to maximize existing equipment. We've been there and done that before. We just didn't have an army of Pampers Patriots in a perpetual state of agony in 99 or 2000. We shut our mouths and learned to adapt. How passe!
The Robinsons have my professional respect, I trust their integrity, and they get my proxy. Period. Nuttin' more need be said. You weren't by their side building the FR feel you all so miss terribly ... they didn't just become goobers overnight. Grow up.
