A 17-year-old Denver girl was viciously slashed Tuesday afternoon, and the word "dyke" was carved into her forearm with a razor, media outlets in Colorado report.
According to the Rocky Mountain News and ABC News, April Mora was walking to a store through an alley near her house at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, when she encountered three teen-age white males in a black Honda. When Mora stopped to look at the car, the teens began calling her "dyke" and hazing her, and Mora gave the passengers a dirty look. The driver then pulled over, and two of the teens got out and dragged Mora to the ground, one holding a knife to her throat.
"Two guys got out of the car, and (one) held me down, while the other guy was cutting something in me," Mora told ABC. "The driver was yelling stuff to them and telling them what to do."
Mora's face was repeatedly slashed, and the letters "RIP" were cut into her stomach. When she screamed, the Rocky Mountain News reports, one of the men flicked her tongue with the blade. The boy with the knife said: "You're lucky we don't rape you."
After awhile, the driver called the others back into the car, leaving Mora face down and covered with blood. Mora, who lives with her girlfriend's family, made her way home, where the Quintana family called an ambulance.
According to Denise de Percin, head of the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, Mora was released and is not in any danger of losing her life. Although the wounds may have been skin-deep, they were extensive and frightening to experience. A photo in the Rocky Mountain News shows the face of an attractive young woman, with close cropped hair, and numerous red welts across her forehead and cheeks.
"I was scared," Mora told the News. "I didn't know what these guys were going to do."
Although the Mora attack was unusual, de Percin said that violence against gay and lesbian youth is common in Colorado, as in fact it is everywhere. The state has been the scene of two high-profile crimes, the murder of Fred Martinez Jr., and the assault on Kyle Skyock in Rifle.
Last January, de Percin reports, 16-year-old Kapree Brown of Denver was beaten up by over a dozen assailants. "People beat you up and leave physical scars," said Brown. "But when it's because of who you are, it's the emotional scars that stay with you forever."
well, when the perps were white males, they were homophobes and their whole gender was in need of some good liberal thought work....If she did this to herself, its only fair to say that she hates lesbians, has a problem with alternative lifestyles, all lesbians should be blamed for this horrendous attack on a lesbian and they should spend a good portion of the education budget writing sad tales of those hateful and bigoted lesbians who cut lesbians with knives because they were uncomfortable with their sexuality.
Oh, wait...
this is the liberals we're talking about....
they'll admit that she made the whole thing up, then they'll say she was driven to it because of the self-hatred heaped on her by an intolerant society dominated by homophobic bible thumpers who refuse to recycle their paper plates. It turns out we're in for a healthy dose of thought work either way. This really sucks ;)
Yeh, like you, you friggin moron.
Dumbest thing I've heard yet today.
The media could care less if the story is false or not. When it is inevitably proven false, the gay community will spout the well-rehersed song and dance about how this poor girl should be commended for trying to call attention to the rampant persecution that gays are subjected to every day in our irrationally homophobic society.
That's how these false claims always seem to get spun.
An assault was reported by a lesbian at a school I used to teach at. Hate crime, dont'cha know. Turns out, after a bit of police sniffin' around, well, the perp was her "partner".
Self cutters are nearly as common as anorexics among young women; it's better hidden though because it doesn't "show" under clothing. Bet you a dollar this sick chick has self inflicted cut wounds going back years all over her.
I spoke too soon altair, camel's idiocy eclipsed yours by a tremendous margin. "Waaah! I'm gonna te-e-e-e-llll!"
If it's "Is this story true?", I won't take the bet. It's not.
I'm confused. You think she didn't self-inflict, but her story is not true. So somebody else did it to her, presumably with her consent? Perhaps some of her "sisters?"
Actually, that is quite likely. Among other reasons, it is obvious that she held (or was held) very still while all the cuts were made. That is highly unlikely given the story she tells.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner!
I also seem to recall a famous rock musician --I believe a Rolling Stone, paid many of her medical expenses and set up a trust fund to help support her. I'll have to see if I can dig up the story on the internet.
You mean one of those lesbians trapped in a man's body?
Anybody else see the inconsistency here? A guy who would actually do this would probably consider raping her to be doing her a great favor. Probably thinks she would immediately switch teams after being exposed to what he can provide.
Most actual or potential rapists do not think of rape as being something their victims are lucky to escape. They often, quite literally, think the victims are "asking for it."
This sounds like a line concocted by someone who thinks of being raped as a horror.
Then she was gang raped and mutilated by subhuman monsters for the crime of her whiteness.
Exactly. The cuts aren't vicious enough to have been infilicted by 3 'hateful' attackers, but neither do they appear to be self-inflicted.
From the story, it appears as if she is the 'submissive' partner in this lesbian relationship. Folllowing the logic, the most likely perpatrator then is her girlfriend.
Of course, you already figured that out, but if we were going to bet money, I wasn't going to reveal my hole card until the chips were down. :-)
