SUMMARY: A 17-year-old Denver girl was viciously slashed Tuesday afternoon, and the word "dyke" was carved into her forearm with a razor.

A 17-year-old Denver girl was viciously slashed Tuesday afternoon, and the word "dyke" was carved into her forearm with a razor, media outlets in Colorado report.

According to the Rocky Mountain News and ABC News, April Mora was walking to a store through an alley near her house at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, when she encountered three teen-age white males in a black Honda. When Mora stopped to look at the car, the teens began calling her "dyke" and hazing her, and Mora gave the passengers a dirty look. The driver then pulled over, and two of the teens got out and dragged Mora to the ground, one holding a knife to her throat.

"Two guys got out of the car, and (one) held me down, while the other guy was cutting something in me," Mora told ABC. "The driver was yelling stuff to them and telling them what to do."

Mora's face was repeatedly slashed, and the letters "RIP" were cut into her stomach. When she screamed, the Rocky Mountain News reports, one of the men flicked her tongue with the blade. The boy with the knife said: "You're lucky we don't rape you."

After awhile, the driver called the others back into the car, leaving Mora face down and covered with blood. Mora, who lives with her girlfriend's family, made her way home, where the Quintana family called an ambulance.

According to Denise de Percin, head of the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, Mora was released and is not in any danger of losing her life. Although the wounds may have been skin-deep, they were extensive and frightening to experience. A photo in the Rocky Mountain News shows the face of an attractive young woman, with close cropped hair, and numerous red welts across her forehead and cheeks.

"I was scared," Mora told the News. "I didn't know what these guys were going to do."

Although the Mora attack was unusual, de Percin said that violence against gay and lesbian youth is common in Colorado, as in fact it is everywhere. The state has been the scene of two high-profile crimes, the murder of Fred Martinez Jr., and the assault on Kyle Skyock in Rifle.

Last January, de Percin reports, 16-year-old Kapree Brown of Denver was beaten up by over a dozen assailants. "People beat you up and leave physical scars," said Brown. "But when it's because of who you are, it's the emotional scars that stay with you forever."

Truth detector on: totally bogus.

Now if they have some arrests and convictions, I will have to recalibrate my truth detector and apologize for the glitch.

That's exactly right, it wouldn't be like a cut on your face while shaving. It would be serious. This story doesn't pass muster at all.

That has nothing to do with what I'm trying to say.

Please enlighten us. So far, you're flailing badly.

I wonder if she reported that attack on her hair by the barber as a hate crime....

Honest officer, I was just an innocent lesbian in for a haircut and he attacked me with those clippers. Look at what's left of my hair!!

Folks who go around slicing others up, whether they're gay or not, are a definite detriment to society.

No one here is saying that criminals aren't bad people. What we are saying is that reporting false crimes in order to whip up class/race/sexual hatred is also a crime.

This sounds like a case of self-mutilation- the Denver police are not dummies, they will figure this one out pretty fast. (Thank God it's not the "detectives" who "investigated" the JonBenet Ramsey case!)

Anyway, I'll bet a case of Heinekin that this turns out to be phony.

And now its provent that this is just more total BS from our "unbiased" media and government Politically Correct Spokespersons.

I agree it's bogus. Looking at her arm, you can see it wasn't "written" smoothly. It looks as though the person doing it had to stop and think about each stroke.

Also, if I was going to slash somebody's face, not that I would , I think I would do vertical lines as opposed to horizontal.

Hmmmm....

I dunno about anyone else, but it sure looks like to me that the word on her fore-arm was self-inflicted.

Notice how all the letters seem to be "drawn" downward? At least she was smart enough not to try it using a mirror.

"They think I did this to myself...so I don't know what's going on with them," Mora told 9NEWS reporter Heidi Hemmat.

Police say they are concerned about an inconsistency in Mora’s story. They say she told police that three men attacked her while a fourth man drove the car and then told some media organizations that there were three attackers.

Uh oh!! Day one of the "crime" and the jig is already up!!

A stud through her lip, a tattoo? Looks like she's into self-mutilation.

The Jon Benet deal was in Boulder... where they are lots worse than Denver! But your point is still valid!

Yep, you would be looking to be doing it quick and getting the hell out of there. That means that you would be making the motions as naturally as possible (up and down and forget neatness).

That photo doesn't show the victim of a vicious attack. There is no swelling or bruising. The assailants would have had to hold her down forcefully and immobilize her arm while they cut her, which should have left bruising and marks on her wrists.

If she was attacked, she made little effort to resist.

Let me ask you something, those boys that hung that queer on the barbed wire to die out in Wyoming...would you want one of them dating your sister?

I certainly wouldn't. Fortunately that won't happen. The thugs who brutally murdered Matthew Shepard will never taste freedom again.

This story, however, bears no resemblance to Shepard's murder. For one thing, Matthew Shepard wasn't ambling down an alley simply minding his own business. He was drunk in a straight bar with a rough reputation trying to pick up guys who were also drunk. Secondly, Shepard was robbed. This girl wasn't. Shepards murder probably started out as a robbery and then escalated to homicide largely due to alcohol. Finally, in the RMN article it is claimed that this was the third time she's been attacked due to being a rug-muncher. This girl has some pretty bad luck --especially for living in Denver which isn't exactly a hotbed of conservatism.

You are all very sick and closed-hearted individuals. How could you feel "glee" from a poor woman's attack??? Homosexuality is not learned, it is not something that one chooses. I say this as a hetero, but why do I even feel the need to disclose this fact? Why did I say that? Because if any one of you read what I wrote you would assume that I was gay. Your intolerance of homosexuals is what gives "Conservatives" a bad name. I do not share your hatred for those that are unlike the "norm." I could care less what men said eons ago in the Bible. I will not and will never believe that God created humans to be so intolerant to one another. We are put on the earth to be the best people that we can be and love ALL of mankind. I truly believe that this is the lesson to learn for all of us. Do unto others, etc. Why feel hate for something that does not affect you? I know I am in for a windfall of negatives, but I don't care. To trivialize someone's attack is sickening.
